Album Review: Siamese Dream

Siamese Dream set the standard for Alternative Rock in the early 1990's. Many believe it's the band's greatest release ever. If you happen to disagree, then perhaps you should give it a listen.

The record consists of 13 songs, some slow, and some hard. This album signifies what the band is all about. The majority of this record was written by Billy Corgan, after the band was having troubles. His work is evident, and one can see he is a perfectionist. Some songs consist of layer after layer of guitar and vocal tracks.

While the single "Today" was a huge hit, and deservingly so, it is definitely not the best song on the album. Tracks like "Geek U.S.A." and "Mayonnaise" are standouts. The songs "Disarm" and "Spaceboy" really capture Corgan's inner emotions, despite the absence of distorted guitar. "Rocket" could be the most well-composed track on Siamese Dream, or perhaps "Soma".

The truth of the matter is that this CD is a great one, and all the songs are fantastic. If you enjoy listening to Rock, or as it has been labeled "Alternative", then Siamese Dream is a must-buy. You wonder why all of today's music sounds the same? It's because all the brilliant ideas were used up on this one.
