This my fun page about my life, my family, and my friends! WELCOME! This is me... I'm quite the activist! I believe very strongly in my right to vote and change the world, therefore, you'll hear a lot about the causes in which I believe! You don't always have to agree with me; but I warn you.. I'm a good debater.. so look out if you want to challenge me on any of my beliefs. I am an idealist - and I think we need more of those in today's world. So.. a little more about me and from where I hail ..... I was born in a town called Paducah in far western Kentucky. I grew up in a pretty rural area, and graduated from Heath High School. Funny how I always thought I'd be the one to put my high school back on the map due to my love of politics (a former Kentucky Governor Julian Carroll, another Heath graduate, made our school known when he was elected Governor in 1975.) Sadly, Heath High School made the news again in December 1997 when a student at Heath opened fire on a group of students praying before school. Three young women died in this tragedy and we may never really know why. One of the students, Missy Jenkins, was paralyzed due to injuries she sustained from this horrible incident. I met Missy at a kick-off for our state government charitable campaign, and realized that she was the little sister of one of my classmates. The world really is small after all. I attended Western Kentucky University and majored in journalism and broadcast communications, and discovered that I really did not like the direction that media today was heading. Because of my activism, I renewed my interest in public activism and got involved in several campaigns. Through my involvement and hard work, I managed to end up in Frankfort, Kentucky, our state's capitol. I now work with a state government agency which is involved in various projects ranging from the state's capital construction program to the capitol tours! I am currently attending Kentucky State University in the public administration program. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever finish! But.. it does make things a little more difficult when one works full-time and tries to further one's education. What do I do in my free time?? Who has free time, LOL!! Just kidding.. I am involved in various campaigns at any given time, but I also volunteer for various charities. I haven't been as good at keeping up my volunteer work of late, but I am hoping to use the web as a tool, also, to spread the word about some great organizations and worthy causes. I am also a big figure skating fan. This stems from my mother's love of skating - she is the one who always has to watch every competition and show on television. So, I grew up with skating in my blood! I have a web page, Skating on the Edge. In the next six months, I will attend two major international skating competitions: Skate America, in Detroit, Michigan, and the U.S. Nationals Figure Skating Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am also an avid reader; mostly political biographies. I'm a big Truman fan.. no.. not the movie.. Harry S. Truman, the former President. His Vice President, Alben Barkley, was also from Paducah! I collect antique jewelry. My dad has fueled this extravagance of mine. I have a love of all things old and it's interesting to wonder the history behind each piece I find and add to my collection. O.K... so you lived through that horrible rambling dissertation about me.. how about some more??? |
