The La's

In my opinion, the two greatest bands ever were The Beatles and The La's, funny enough they both happen to come from the city of Liverpool, there must be something in the water.......
Lee Mavers: never became realised as the John Lennon he should have. Confounded with perfecting his songs to an absolute maximum, spent most of his hours in the recording studio. The La's were recording from 1987 to 1991 but only a few singles exist, Lee's obsession was ultimately his downfall. Not being able to release much until he felt it was exactly how he wanted it.
Mike Badger was the original frontman for The La's from 1984 until around 86, Lee booted him out. While Mike must be given credit for The La's band name and claimed to have co-written a few b-sides and even played on a few old demos, he never recieved much thanks for it. Formed a new band called The Onset "In the grip of an onset, you run for cover". The Onset split in `95. I think he's formed a new band called Kachinas.
John Power was another member, the bassist from `87 untill the brake-up in `91. Introduced to the band by Mike Badger in `87, John was quite a talented young lad, he wrote a few songs and sang them live (they were never released as La's tracks). Songs like `Follow me down' and the famous `Alright' now recycled for his new band Cast (Another La's reference, the last lyric on the album, Lookin' Glass "The Change is Cast").
Paul Hemmings and later Barry Sutton were guitarists for a while, The La's had many guitarist people speak of around 30 just from `87 onwards! Paul played a few gigs and a few tracks, he didn't get paid much either. He is pictured on the back of the La's first single `Way Out'. Here is a letter from him to his solicetor asking for payment for his work. He is now with the Lightening Seeds.
There were many other band members that came and went I haven't got time to describe them all, notably on the drums was Lee's brother Neil Mavers and guitarist Peter `Cammy' Camel.
