He got his start on TV. At the young age of 5, he starred in Romper Room but was booted off the show for being disruptive. By the time he was on TV again, he was 14. He was in a whole bunch of commercials for Matchbox Cars and other TV commercials. He then went on to do some educational films like Mickey's Safety Club. Eventually he won over guest appearances in bigger television shows like The New Adventures of Lassie, and Santa Barbara. He got his first regular appearance on Parenthood but that didn't last too long. His big break came when he got the part of Luke Brower on the very popular show Growing Pains.
He eventually went into movies. His first movie was Critters 3. Something he would like to forget about. But the movie that really got him recognized was This Boy's Life, his first starring role in a movie. His performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? won him an Academy Award nomination. He was happy to hear that he hadn't won it because of his fear of speaking in front of large audiences. He has made many movies including The Basketball Diaries, William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Marvin's Room, and his most recent and successful film, Titanic.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a very successful actor. I'm sure he will take on more challenges in the future when it comes to roles and he will always have many fans all around the world.
