Frumpy started in July 1997. It started with myself and Mark (singer) talking about how it would be cool if we started a band. We arranged a time when we could jam/write songs. When the day came, he brought Dave (bass),Rob (guitar) and Mark (guitar). I had never met Rob and Dave before, and had only known Mark Higgens when i was a kid. That day we wrote 3 songs, and discovered that we were indeed a band. We were excited, none of us had been in a band before, and already, after only one practice, we had made a crude ghetto-blaster tape. That night, we got very intoxicated and were trying to find a name for our band. Someone suggested that we open a dictionary and pick the first word we saw. After quite a few stupid words, we found frumpy, meaning out of style, outdated, and out of place.

In the next few weeks, frumpy practiced much and wrote a few more songs. We signed up for The Festival of Youth, a show put on every year by the Colchester Youth Leader Corps and were kind of nervous, this was all new and exciting. We played, and had the time of our lives. Our set consisted of all of our songs, and from what i hear, we did pretty good. Other bands that played were The Fluzies, Wizurd, La Cosa Nostra, Just Another Label, Lavender Hill Mob, Soylent Green, Renegade Synapsis, The Moshmellows, and a bunch of other bands i cant remember. A few weeks later, we played Parkapalooza, a show put on by our friend Crystal. It went well, except for the fact that we broke a string, cutting short our set. There were also rules keeping us fom swearing and being offensive. They never noticed the swearing though. After that, there were no gigs. A few of us played an acoustic set with our friend Kim singing. And various other side projects. Frumpy's next gig is May 1st, 1998, (another no-swear gig, heh heh) so we'll see how it goes. We have written many more songs, and have changed alot from our original sound, although we still play those songs. We made a tape with a four-track as well. We have gotten faster, and experiment with different sounds.

In the near future, i plan to put on some shows, because the Truro music scene is really suffering with the closing of Hemplees (gigs every month) and the breakup of Wizurd and Just Another Label...*as of March 25th 1998, La Cosa Nostra Have Broken up*:() but im confident that things will get better in the coming months.

We played a house party on April 11th at my appartment. The occasion was mine and Dave's birthday. Better Off Dead also played, and to understand what the party was like, you have to see my appartment. It is very small, and we must have had 80 people there over the night and probably 50 there at any given time. The music started at 9:30 with Better Off Dead who played for about an hour. This hour was a chaotic time of beer and fun. They went through 13 explosive songs and, never once quitting drinking, still played very well in spite of extreme drunkeness. At 10:30, Frumpy took the...er...living room stage. We played only about 5 songs, because we were very drunk by this time. We closed the set with Bro Hymn by Pennywise, and that, in my opinion, is as fun as it gets. The beer that had been flying around all night was now being dumped over everybodys heads and over drums and guitars and the ceiling and Jello, our rat (he got pretty drunk) With about ten people crowded around the two microphones, the night ended with a bang. With the appartment only a parking lot away from the Truro police station, we had two appearances by the cops, who, surprisingly, were pretty cool. The told us to stay off the roof, and asked if there was any underage drinking. When they heard no, they were gone. Then the paddy wagon came up to check things out. HA! We had fun and didn't even get arrested. Of course, there will be another, and that is scheduled for May 9th.
