Welcome to my HP iPaq HW6965 Page, Im guessing you found this site by typing out the HP6965 keyword. Anyways I plan to share what i learn about this device and discoveries on this page.

HP 6965

Overview
Ive been using this device for about 3 weeks, its has since replaced my nokia 6020. A good all rounder phone that i do miss at times. So why did i changed to the iPaq? Pretty much bec there was a promotion by my cable internet provider (starhub) that said if i upgraded my broadband to a higher speed and paid an extra $15 per month (with a 2 year contract) then i could have the 6965 for (SG$199).

The inital transition from the reliable and trusted Nokia 6020 to HP 6965 was not an easy one, infact for the first week i was still using my nokia and used the 6965 as a PDA only. Unlike getting a new Nokia phone (where the had Nokia utilities to migrate all data and setting to the new phone, there sadly isnt a way for me to do from the nokia to HP, so i had to do the manual way.

Migration of Contact from Nokia to HP
As i stored all contacts on the phone memory instead of sim card, i had a problem, initially i tought i could get the data into outlook via nokia pc suite, unfortunately i installed ms office 2003 and thei syne dont work for tha version of outlook. So in the end i managed to get my IRDA on my PC to talk to my phone and just copied all the contacts as VCF business cards and copied the VCF files to the 6965.

Storage Device
One good thing about 6965 is that i can add memory cards, and since it works with Mini SD card, the first thing i did after getting the 6965 is to buy a 1GB Mini SD card. It cost me SG$35. I was actually quite suprised, 1 GB for $35!

Recommended software.
Below is a list of freeware software that i feel is essential for your 6965.

NoteM
a software that was designed for pocket pc2003, when it works it works well, just remember to disable the auto off function of the windows mobile. At times it can just hang the entire Phone at launching of the program. If it hangs to often, my suqqestion is to reload the program aqain, so its a qood idea to have the cab file on your storage drive.

Magic button
This is a really simple program that enable you to easily Quit a program without having it eating up your memory. It work, but maybe at times you might feel that its screwing up your system.

Team One's Unzip
Not as fantastic as the real winzip, it can unzip files but it does not maintain the folder structure which is a real pain, I'm sure there is a freeware tool that can do a better job, as for now, this does work. Good for when you need to move in files and documents to your machine quickly, oh and a huge problem for this software, its not able to unzip to storage card, big huge problem.

Pocket Music
Sporting its winamp look and feel and skin, if your a winamp fan you will lovethis. It works the same way as winamp with the player, equalizer, playlist fitting nicely on the 6965, unfortunately you can't map function keys to the qwerty keyboard, just to the call and hang up button and the joystick, but its decent enough to have a "turn off screen" function. Which make the 6965 an iPod.

Tips: Best windows media encoder Settings for video.

(program I used to create the WMV files is ‘Windows Media Encoder 9' it's a Free Download and you can get it from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx

I'm still tweaking the settings, so far I manage to get a setting that allowed me to compress a 4min music video to about 4mb. I feel since the video is meant for the pocket pc, there is a lot of data that can be removed, for instance the frame rate, I don't think a 29 or 25 fps is required, so Ive set the video frame rate to just 12fps and it looks pretty good. As for screen size, taking into consideration that the screen size of the device is 250x250, we should do away with the 320x240 and set size of 250x190. If it's a music video, then set the audio to a higher sampling rate, maybe 44khz.

Below are the settings I Use:

Video Size: 250 x 190
Frame rate: 12fps
Video Bit Rate: 80k
Audio: 64kbps, 44khz Stereo
Video codec: Windows Media Video 9
Audio codec: Windows Audio Video 9

This is the Profile file that you can use to load to your Media Encoder to get the same settings
