*'DREAMTIME' is released. Produced by John Brand. This album features some re-makes of Death Cult songs.
*Cult appears on BBC TV's 'Whistle Test'.
*'Ressurection Joe' makes UK #74.
*'Zig Zag' magazine poll votes The Cult "best group" and "best live act" of 1984.
*Nigel Preston (drums) is fired for his eratic/rebelious behaviour. (i.e. He smashed up the tour bus!)
1985
'LOVE' is released. Produced by Steve Brown.
*'She Sells Sanctuary' makes UK #15 (also was #1 for a year in UK alterative charts!)Mark Brzezcki on drums for 'LOVE'.
*Cult tours with Les Warner as a temp (drums). Later joins as permanent.
*LOVE makes UK #14 and US #87.
*'Revolution' makes UK #30.
1986
*Record the album "PEACE" at Manor studios on Oxfordshire, but was worried "PEACE" was too cluttered and lackluster, so they scrapped the album (at great expence to their management).
*At a ceremony in New York, The Cult recieves the prestigous "John Lennon" award for song-writting exellence for 'She Sells Sanctuary'. This is where they meet DEF JAM label owner Rick Rubin.
*Flew back to New York to re-write "PEACE" album with Rubin.
1987
*'ELECTRIC' is released. Produced by Rick Rubin.
*Kid Chaos (Zodiac Mindwarp) joins Cult on bass. Jamie Stewart goes on rhythm guitar.
*'ELECTRIC' makes UK #4 and US #38.
*Cult supports Billy Idol on his UK tour. Later embark on their own tour with GUNS 'N' ROSES as an opening act!
*Ian had a habit of destroying the set after a concert-forcing the band to buy new equiptment-causing them to lose a lot of money. So their Japan leg of the tour was cancelled, wiping out any chance of the tour making a profit.
*A rift started developing as Ian was in an alcoholic self-destruct spiral while Billy and Jamie were into keeping in shape.
1988
*Cult relocates to Los Angeles, splitting with UK managment.
*Fire Les Warner (for extensive drug abuse), giving him a drum kit and 2000 pounds (UK money!) for compensation. He later sues The Cult.
*Kid Chaos quits, goes on with FOUR HORSEMEN.
1989
*'SONIC TEMPLE' is released. Produced by Bob Rock.
*SONIC TEMPLE makes UK #3 and US #10.
*Bob Rock's friend (and Bryan Adams drummer) Mickey Curry is used on drums for the recording sessions. Matt Sorrum pounds the skins for live performances and videos.
*Opening act for Metallica's 'Damaged Justice' tour before embarking on their own 'The Prayer' tour.
1990
*Jamie Stewart quits after tour, wanting to produce more.
*GUNS 'N' ROSES picks up Matt Sorum.
*Ian organizes 'A Gathering of the Tribes' festival at Shoreline Ampitheatre and Pacific Ampithreatre in Mount View, CA. Bands included ICE-T, PUBLIC ENEMY, THE CHARLATENS, INDIGO GIRLS and more. This festival is aknowledged as the fore-father of the Lollapaloza garb.
1991
*'CEREMONY' is released. Produced by Richie Zito.
*Micky Curry on drums for this one, again.
*Cult is sued by the family of the boy on album cover, saying they didn't have permission to use his image.
1993
*Greatest hits album 'PURE CULT: For Rockers, Ravers, Lovers and Sinners' is releaded, featuring the newer single 'The Witch'.
1994
*Cult pick up Scott Garret (ex-NeverLand) on drums and Craig Adams on bass.
*'THE CULT' is released. Produced by Bob Rock.
1995
*During a fraught North American tour, Astbury and Duffy call it quits (April 5th).
1996
*Ian goes on to form HOLY BARBARIANS and debut with 'CREAM'. Band includes Patrick Sugg (guitars) Scott Garret (drums) and Matt Garret (bass).
*Duffy, Stewart, Brzezcki and a heavily tatooed friend of Duffy perform Cult songs at Wembly arena on July 3rd. No word from Astbury.
*The Cult prevoiusly recorded 20 new songs. Two songs made it on 'HIGH OCTANE CULT' ultimate hits collection (US only). Songs are 'In The Clouds' and 'Beauty's on the Street'.
1999
Beggars Banquet came out with a live Cult album, which was originally released in Canada (1993) only as a promotion with the purchase of the Pure Cult video. It's from the Ceremony tour at the Marquee Club in London. Two-disc album that kicks serious ass!
