Erik Moll
Erik Moll was my big personal discovery *S* of one evening at the 1998 Kerrville Folk Festival. I had to hear every note he played and sang, but was anxious to get over to the tent where the CDs were sold before his were sold out ! He wrote or co-wrote all of the tunes on the CD, Most Of All, and performed many of them, along with several from a couple of earlier CDs. This is just so pleasant, and almost defies categorization. Folk ? Sure. Country ? Yeah, as a lot of folk seems to be these days. But pop too. "Stormy Night in Texas" has a haunting melody, a definite country sound, including some yodels. "Can You Handle It?" has a bit of yodel and scat, but a real pop/dance feel. "My Haunted Heart" is the opening cut. As I listen to it now I can't help but sway with it, and listen to the words, again. Moll's music does not become background music. "I Like You A Lot" is simple, and the words will make you smile even before the whistling. "I Love Your Cookin'" and "Lucky Waltz" are my other favorites of the 13 tunes on this CD.
Unfortunately, this CD is not yet widely distributed, and not listed at either cdnow or at amazon.com... but you OUGHT to have it. On Erik's own Fire Ant Records of Wimberley, Texas, check his site for bio, pics, ordering information (mail or on-line), and several free song downloads.
