"My Friend"

From a dream last night, these words arose,
Written down now, when the sun shines,
But it was the darkness of night,
That befell the meaning of these rhymes.

Three chairs, one empty, and an Eagle.
An act of love, therein on one.
And a simple phrase was spoken aloud,
"...And my friend, Jason."

I cannot ask that anyone else know,
Or even begin to understand,
How these words made me feel,
From the dream at hand.

I awoke with a pounding heart,
To stars filling the darkened sky.
Blood racing through my veins,
Staring into the night's eye.

As his end approached inside,
And the dream was almost done,
These words struck my heart,
"...And my friend, Jason."
