I always thought Losing My Religon could be about Stipe's relations with the media world ("That's me in the corner, that's me in the spotlight"). He has been quoted many times saying that "losing my religon" actually is a Southern phrase to say losing my temper. So to me it suggests he's fed up with being in "the spotlight". He seems unsure of what to say to the media ("Every whisper, of every waking hour, I'm choosing my confessions") and when he does say things he seems unsure of if they were the right things to say ("Oh no I've said to much, I set it up.") Just MHO :)
