BROTHER TELLS: I TAUGHT BEATLES HOW TO LOOK COOL

Sir Paul McCartney's brother Mike has for the first time told how he taught the Beatles to look "cool" in photographs taken before Ringo joined the band.

Mike took a series of snaps of the Fab Four at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in the early 1960s, just after the band returned from Hamburg.

One now-famous shot shows them with drummer Pete Best looking sultry in black leather suits they had picked up in Germany. Mike, 57, told a British newspaper: "I told them to look at the light bulb so they would look cool. But only John and Paul did, so you've got two looking one way and the others somewhere else."

Mike's Beatles photos are going on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
