Melbourne's major events supremo Ron Walker will remember George Harrison for his generosity and down to earth attitude.
Mr Walker said he struck up a firm friendship with Harrison through the Beatle's love of motor racing.
"We had a long relationship over many years and he was a regular visitor to Australia... he loved it and the people," Mr Walker said.
"He loved Australia that much he bought a house on Hamilton Island."
"He was a very giving man and contributed to many Australian charities."
The Beatle was also a regular guest at the Walker dinner table.
"He came to Bernie Ecclestone's 50th anniversary dinner at Crown and after the race got down with the team managers and myself in the street and sung with us," he said.
"He was just a knock about fellow who rose to stardom, but was not affected by it."
"The George Harrisons of this life will be remembered the same as other greats, just like Elvis was."
