Along with Bob Dylan, the Byrds - an American band that had taken electric 
guitars to folk music - were another growing influence on the Beatles.  
George's "If I Needed Someone" was inspired by two Byrds' numbers - "She 
Don't Care About Time" and "The Bells Of Rhymney".  The Hollies became the 
first band to cover one of George's songs when they took "If I Needed 
Someone" into the Top 30.  George's response to such an honour was a public 
declaration that he didn't like their version!
