IN MY LIFE (Lennon-McCartney) 1965 In John's view, "In My Life" was the Beatles' "first real major piece of work". One of John's most poignant sets of lyrics started life as a free form poem that looked back nostalgically on some of the landmarks he remembered as a child, all of which were gradually disappearing or changing beyond recognition. After losing the specific references "In My Life" becomes a lament to the inevitable losses and changes that are outside our control. The source of the tune remains something of a controversy. John maintained that he wrote it with a little help from Paul. Paul recalls having written the whole tune.
