"I'm sorry," I then said, fearing that I had upset or offended him.
"Don't worry, Penny. Now let get a band-aid and then we can go back out for maybe a little." I watched him get up, the room and return with a band-aid in one hand and a bottle of liquid in the other. It read 'Alcohol'.
"Oh, no-no-no-no-no-no," I said when I saw the label, "no way." George looked sternly at me.
"It could get infected."
"I don't care."
"Oh, yes you do."
"Yeah?"
"Mm-hmm." Now he and I was both smiling, he prepared to fight with a tissue dampened with the alcohol and I with the bed-sheet.
All of a sudden he charged me.
"Yikes!" I screamed, and ran out of the room...right into Paul! He steadied me as I almost fell.
"Whoa...there, slow down girl, life is long," he held my wrists as I struggled to escape the alcohol-wielding George.
"Come on, Paul!" I begged him, giggling, "please, please, please, I'll do anything..." Paul held me tight, though, no matter how hard I struggled, and I quickly felt the sharp sting of the alcohol on my open wound. "ACH!" I shouted and a tear escaped my eye once more in the sudden pain. More tears followed quickly.
"Shit," said Paul quickly and, like George, folded me into his embrace. He rocked me back and forth until the agony subsided and my sobs had turned into whimpers
Within a period of two minutes I was well recuperated, but reluctant to move out of Paul's comforting arms. I was trying to decide how to pretend that I was still injured and I needed his hug, when I opened my eyes and found George's, two inches away from them, peering at me slyly.
"You little liar," he chided me, "going after our Paulie like that. And I thought you were innocent!"
Paul laughed and so did I.
"There you go," he said, and placed me back on my feet.
