What is "The Kingdom of Air"? It's my world and a very optimistic world at that! Wherever I am, whatever I see, everything I touch, everyone I meet -- it's all part of MY Kingdom. The Kingdom of Air is not something you can own. Everyone has their own Kingdom and everyone can be a King (or Queen as the case may be).
More importantly, however, "The Kingdom of Air" is a song that I wrote. One day, when I've registered the copyrights for my music, I'll post the lyrics. Basically, what you see is your own Kingdom. For example, I live on the fifth floor of a five floor apartment. I have a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from my balcony and every morning I watch the sunrise over the waves while I eat my breakfast. What I see is not MINE in the physical sense. I don't OWN it. But no one can take that view away from me (unless I'm evicted). I look over hundreds of houses big and small. Though I can't go and enter any of them without the permission of the owner, I can "possess them with my eyes" just as I possess the sunrise with my eyes. It's all free.
I share this Kingdom with a beautiful Queen. Those who know me will know her name. We reign over this Kingdom without affecting the lives of our subjects. The best part of it is that they don't even know we exist. |

My music? Ah, yes, I write some songs (but not the kind to make the world sing -- that's Barry). I have recently (in the past five years) recorded over twenty tunes (songs and instrumentals). Last November, I bought a Pioneer CD Recorder and put nineteen of them on CD. The Cd is entitled (and this is very long....):
obliquai mirabiledictu PETER PAN GROWN UP? Can he fly? ...and other questions
The music is, well, a far cry from what is usually considered music. What I mean to say is that I use the word "music" very, very loosely to describe the noise that I record. Sometimes I write instrumentals; sometimes my tunes have actual lyrics. My instrumentals are what I call 'noisescapes'. Sometimes there is no real melody, but rather a feeling that I'm trying to convey. I don't really call myself a musician.... More of a dabbler in a world I don't quite understand.
As a guitarist, I have no confidence. As a lyricist, however, I have a little bit. My lyrics touch on many topics. A high proportion of them bitch about this or that. Some of them tell stories. A few of them were written for my wife.
I make no apologies for my songs. I also don't ask for critiques one way or the other. Basically, I write my music for myself -- my own enjoyment. I didn't write the songs for anyone else (except, obviously, the ones I write for my wife). If people don't like them, that's fine. I'm not asking them to. On the other hand, if people do like them, that's fine, too. It doesn't really matter either way. As Neil Peart (RUSH) so eloquently puts it in Anthem:
"It was for me, not you, that I came to write this song." |
