THE MAN

HIS EQUIPMENT:

When I used to listen to music, I never paid much attention to the drummers. I knew they were there, but besides that they all sounded the same to me. I never noticed fills, cymbal rolls, syncopated rythms, etc. That all changed when I started listening to Dave Matthews Band and Carter Beauford. His style of drumming was a sharp contrast to anything I had ever heard. I began to understand how important the drummer is to a band and how he can really "move" the group. Carter is not just a drummer however, he is a full percussion section. Without Carter, the Dave Matthews Band wouldn't be the same. Dave Matthews definitely knows how important he is to the group and has said many times that Carter is his hero. When asked about Beauford, Leroi Moore simply said "He's always on the one", meaning that he never misses a beat. Unbelievable.

I truly could listen to Carter drum all day long, even if the rest of the band wasn't there. If you have some extra money I recommend getting the "Under the Table and Drumming" video. I am not a drummer but this video fascinates me.

I also think his performance on the "Live From Red Rocks CD" is phenomenal as well as his performance on Listener Supported. Let's just admit it: Carter is amazing every time he sits down behind a drumset.
