Great show.... it was my first DMB concert, and they definately DID NOT let
me down. While I'm not as familiar with R2T and Recently, the band's
performance made me order those two the next day from the DMB web site.
The music just entrances me and the complex character of all their songs
was a great way to spend a nice summer night on the lawn with friends. My
wife made a good point, though..... some of the jams went on for a lot
longer than most bands, and most of the songs had a serious jam session.
Not that I'm complaining, but it did sort of drag out the show.
Still a solid two hour + performance of, in my opinion, the most talented
band out there. Bela Fleck was great, too, and was onstage for most of the
time even with DMB. Great combo, and the banjo just added to the
atmosphere.
Two thumbs up from this new and hooked DMB fan.
Last year I attended a DMB show and it rocked (I don't think we
stopped dancing until the next day)but this years show was much more
relaxed and much more mellow but it was still a great show
It was too mellow, and the band new it...and he said "you are
too good to us" Then he picked it up with a kick ass version of Tripping
Billies
The Hartford show was absolutely incredible. The crowd was
GREAT, and the band was on fire! They opened with the OLD intro to One
Sweet World, then right into Best Of What's Around. It was like the
Grateful Dead in the early 70's with all of the jamming! Seek Up, Jimi
Thing, #41, and Two Step, had these like 15 minute jams.....and I swear I
had a religous experience! In one word, WOW!!! It totally blew away New
Haven in 96' fall tour, and was almost as good as 10/4 @ NYC!!!
This show was unbelievable, particularly because Bela Fleck joined the
boys for 7 songs! The banjo was an incredibly awesome added element to the
sound. After a great opening set by Bela, Vic, and co., the DMB set was
mostly on the softer side of their sound. "Say Goodbye," "#41," "Lover Lay
Down," and "Crash Into Me," combined for a great show to get on bootleg and
shag your girlfriend to.
Dave's voice was pure magic. The added sax for "#41" (Bela's saxist)
combined with Leroi's resulted in a superb sax jam. The usual fav's were
also covered, as was most of the "Crash" disk. I was extremely pleased with
the new song too!!! All in all, a great quality show.
