A Great Story from Moshe Lavi
Moshe Lavi, and the story of
Uriah Heep
Transcribed by Dave White and first published on his siteIn 1983, Uriah Heep played a series of gigs in Tel Aviv Israel, and one show in Haifa. One of our Heepsters, Moshe Lavi attended one of these shows..... A staunch Uriah Heep addict, Moshe remained in the lobby before the show, during the sound checks hoping to meet the Mick, or the band . After the sound check was complete, the band came into the lobby, to be interviewed, and meet thier fans.. Armed with flowers, and a bottle of fine wine, he spotted Mick giving his interview to the local TV or radio station. When Mick saw his fan, waiting there, eyes as big as Lee's snare drum, he turned to the interviewer and said..." We have to stop the interview now...there is a fan, and I must greet him".
So begins the following tale of Moshe Lavi and Uriah Heep....it is a wonderful story, and please feel free to contact Moshe, if you would like to hear more.
Mick, his fan, and the entire band now sat, and talked, and enjoyed the wine ."...and he drank my wine".... They discussed Heep. the world, and most of all ,music....
Moshe had his album signed, and during the show, he could see Mick eyeballing him once in a while.
"as the band was really rockin' and doin' it live, "Easy Livin'" was being played, and it was GREAT !!!!.. Mick saw us in the front row singin' " Easy livin' and I've been forgiven', Since you've taken your place in my heart".... Mick, grabs the mic from the stand, and comes to the very front of the stage, and puts it right in our faces !! You better believe we were singin' our heart out !!!! After a few bars, he took it back to stage, and we just stared at each other ! What a guy !!! What a Band !!! ... and WHAT A NIGHT !!!!!
After the show, Mick had a security guard find Moshe and bring him over. Mick asked, what Moshe thought of the show, and if he would be able to attend the following night. Moshe replied that he couldn't afford too many shows, and Mick says, "No Way !", and had him GIVEN two tickets to each of the following gigs ! Lee gave him his drumsticks (they say Lee Kerslake, Uriah Heep on them).
Moshe was stunned by this showing of kindness, and managed to attend most if not all of the following performamces ! Can you imagine !!!! To reciprocate, he invited the band over to his house for dinner, if they wanted a good "home cooked" meal....AND THEY ACCEPTED ! Wine, Music, and laughter ensued , as the band from England, partied with the fan from Israel....a great time was had by all....!
Personal recollections of the remainder of the tour, include:
Lee's lady had her camera stolen and they all went to the police station, to file the report....
A few nights were spent in pubs, havin' a great time !
And Lee had a swimming incident in the Red Sea, and almost drowned !Maybe more stories later eh?, Moshe???
