Boom Shacka Lacka

(H. Lewis)

Hopeton Lewis & The Chosen Few, 1970

The number one song of the fifth Jamaican Festival contest, 1970. Other entries in the competition that year were Sing Freedom (came in second place) by The Jamaicans and Water More Than Flour by Al & The Vibrators. Produced by the notorious Duke Reid. As Lascelles Perkins revealed during an interview: 'I was responsible for this fellow's festival song, Hopeton Lewis is his name. I was in the background singing the bassline. Of course Duke Reid didn't pay me at all and Hopeton only got a couple of dollars'.
