TEQUILA!!!
Thanks to Glycerine for scanning the artwork and letting me use it...
Released - 18th January 1999
U.K. Chart Position - No. 2!!!
Reviews - Kerrang! #733 - KKKKK (i.e. five out of five) - 'Talk about turning a sow's ear into a silk purse. On the 'Shaving Peaches' album, the 'Vision's ode to Tony Wright's pre-ankle-snapping favourite drink was rather naff south-of-the-border-flavoured party rock, but in the nimble knob-twiddling paws of techno troupe Mint Royale it's an uproarious, mad-as-a-badger's-frisbee big beat blaster that acts as the perfect antidote for blowing away those New Year hangovers. This just reeks of sozzled Kevins and Traceys staggering out of Costa Del Sol 'niteclubs' at three in the morning, gagging for a spot of extra-marital uglies-bumping. Sorted, bangin', top one, etc,…'
NME just slated it, although they said Terrorvision are better than this usually so I can excuse them somewhat.
There is also a fan's opinion in Crossed Line, dated 11/1/99.
'Tequila' started life as a perfectly normal album track, dedicated to the time Tony got a bit tipsy on the lethal Mexican death-water and leapt off a high wall trying to steal the 'H' from the Hard Rock Café sign in Madrid (click here and then here to hear it from the man himself). However, when Radio One breakfast show DJ Zoe Ball heard the Mint Royale mix on a promo, she immediately started playing it as her 'Platter that Matters' (or something), and eventually persuaded EMI, live on national radio, to release the remix as a single instead of the planned 'Day After Day'. This provoked cries of joy from those who disliked the original but loved the remix (like Kerrang!), but outraged some of us (including myself and my mate Mel) who, even if we liked the remix, didn't like it being flogged instead of the original (oh, how narrow minded we are). At least they had the decency to put the album version on all three formats, and it did put the band in the public eye on a scale never before seen! That is to say, it was our biggest ever hit going straight in at No. 2!!!
'Tequila (Album Version)' is taken from the album 'Shaving Peaches'.
