Welcome, Blur Fans

"when I feel heavy metal, whoo-hoo!"

Hmm, what do I say about Blur? Well, let's see.

Blur are one of the staple bands of the Britpop movement in the UK, Europe, and the American underground. After releasing five albums and showcasing a slew of different styles--shoegazer pop, stately Britpop, country-twinged art-rock, and even delves into trip-hop--Blur has the savvy and the experience to be called one of the best bands from the UK ever.

As I said, they've released five albums. The first, LEISURE, combined the feel of shoegazer bands like Chapterhouse and My Bloody Valentine with the pop of the Stone Roses. Based on the success of the singles "There's No Other Way" and "She's So High," the album reached moderate success in England. On their next 2 albums, Blur evolved into one of the forces in modern rock. MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH mixed stately Britpop with passionate love songs. PARKLIFE set the standard for all Britpop albums to come with its #1 chart placement. Next followed THE GREAT ESCAPE, another solid album with some of the band's best songs, such as "The Universal," and 1997's eponymous American breakthrough featuring the hit "Song 2," which many people have thought to be typical of standard Blur fare.

Blur is one of the top 5 bands to come out of the UK in the 1990's. Their evolution over the course of 8 years and 5 albums has been remarkable. With a capable, talented lead singer in Damon Albarn and one of Britain's best guitarists, Graham Coxon, Blur should be remembered among the classic bands of the decade.

RECOMMENDED: MODERN LIFE IS RUBBISH, PARKLIFE, THE GREAT ESCAPE

GROUP RATING: ***** (of 5)
