ABCTim: Welcome! Today we're talking with Vincent Irizarry, ALL MY CHILDREN's David Hayward. David has recently returned to Pine Valley and winning the affections of Liza Colby seems to be at the top of his agenda. Will he succeed? Welcome, Vincent!
ABCTim: Hi everyone. Vincent has just joined me and we'll be taking the first question.....
Question: What has been your favorite moment on All My Children?
Vincent Irizarry: I guess I would have to say the beginning when I first started. I had the chance to come on as Allie's ex-lover. It offered so many possibilities. I could see this was a character that had potential. The story at that time had a real beginning, middle and end. There was a real train of thought my character could follow.
Question: What college did you go to?
Vincent Irizarry: Berkely College of Music in Boston.
Question: Do you read the ABC message boards on AOL?
Vincent Irizarry: I went online for the first time to read the boards about a week and a half ago. I went to the ABC website. There were some interesting things being said.
Question: Do you have any kids?
Vincent Irizarry: Yes, I have two young girls -- Siena, who is 8 and Aria who is 15 months old.
Question: Do you have fun with your show? Why?
Vincent Irizarry: Of course it's fun. It's always fun to work as an actor. I like to express myself creatively. I enjoy AMC. The people are great and inspiring. The crew really makes it a warm and inviting environment to work in. The group of people I work with are extraordinary. I've known Marcy Walker and Michael Knight for many years. Michael Lowry has become a good friend. A lot of old ties here. Michael Nader and Amelia Marshall are two others I've known. David Canary is so great to work with too.
Question: Hi! Do you have a fan club? Are you married? Who is your next love interest on AMC?
Vincent Irizarry: I don't have a fan club. I am married. No woman in Pine Valley is safe from the lecherous advances of Dr. David.
Question: After shooting do you spend time with the rest of the cast? - KL
Vincent Irizarry: Sometimes. I'm good friends with Michael Lowry and Alla Korot. Alla has even baby sat for my kids.
Question: What has been your favorite role so far?
Vincent Irizarry: I would say the most gratifying role was Lujack on Guiding Light. The response was huge. I enjoyed creating a character that was multi-dimensional. I loved it. It lasted for two years and then I wanted to move on. It was very gratifying. Outside of daytime the role of Gino Santano in the miniseries Lucky Chances was the most challenging. I played him from age 25 to 64. Eleven different age increments throughout. Some days I played three different ages. It was very challenging and rewarding.
Question: Hi Vincent, have you any plans to do Broadway?
Vincent Irizarry: I'd love to go back to doing theater. Prior to Guiding Light, theater was all I did. Now that I'm back in New York, I want to sing again and do theater. I've optioned a story that I'm shopping around to networks. I would like to produce it and act in it.
Question: Hi David, just wanted to tell you that I enjoy your character very much. Too bad he has such poor taste in women. How long will you be on AMC? Mango
Vincent Irizarry: I signed a two year contract, but there are no guarantees in daytime TV.
Question: Are you an AOL member yet?
Vincent Irizarry: No, I use another provider.
Question: David are you interested in fine art?
Vincent Irizarry: I love all the arts. One of my favorite artists is Michelangelo.
Question: Who would you like AMC to pair you up with? See you next week-end in Florida, Mr. Sexy!!
Vincent Irizarry: Thank you! That's a good question. I could see some potential with someone like Kit. She seems to have the same type of manipulative nature that David has.
Question: I am so glad that you are back on AMC. David Hayward is my favorite character. What do you like about David?
Vincent Irizarry: I like that whatever he's doing, he does it as if it were for his own personal entertainment and pleasure. He's extremely arrogant and doesn't think many people could give him much competition. That's not a great quality, but it's fun to play. David is the type of person who is motivated by what he can get for himself. That can be destructive at times, too.
Question: How do you like living on the East Coast?
Vincent Irizarry: I love living in NYC -- it's my home town and my family is here. This time around it was an adjustment because I came back with my wife and children. This is a hard city to raise small children in. This is so much different than living and raising children in Santa Monica. Now we're adjusting and are enjoying living in the east.
Question: Do you get chased around by girls???
Vincent Irizarry: Only by my daughters, but more often than not, I'm chasing them. On occasion I get chased by my wife.
Question: Don't you think it is horrible what your character is doing to Gillian?
Vincent Irizarry: I wouldn't be doing it personally, but it fits in with David's character. Gillian has been mostly doing the pursuing.
Question: What do you do with your spare time?
Vincent Irizarry: I spend as much time as I can with my family. My 15 month old never settles down and she just wears my wife and I out! My wife and I enjoy getting out of the city and going to the country. We try to take advantage of the cultural things NYC has to offer.
Question: I am a nurse...who teaches you the medical jargon, because you say it so well.
Vincent Irizarry: The medical-ese is never easy to swallow when I see the scripts. I just say it over and over again. Also, we have a medical consultant on the set for those scenes.
Question: When did you first know you wanted to be an actor?
Vincent Irizarry: I've been acting for 20 years. In college, a teacher approached me and asked if I would be interested in acting. I was curious and auditioned for a role in a play. I got the part and from that point on, I fell in love with acting.
Question: How is the man who played Alan Thorpe??
Vincent Irizarry: It was Roger Thorpe. Michael Zaslow is still very ill but he has reprised his role of David Renaldi on OLTL.
Vincent Irizarry: We have time for one more question.......
Question: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
Vincent Irizarry: TV show would have to be Ally McBeal, Frasier, Mad About You and Law and Order. There are too many great movies to choose from.
Vincent Irizarry: Don't forget to join me at Super Soap Weekend in Orlando next weekend! Thank you for watching. I hope to do this again with you soon. Thank you.
ABCTim: Thanks for being with us!
