Mistress the Elder Knightess of Camelot (Unique)
Discovering NannyMUD.
I started Mudding when a friend introduced me to a place he used to go called Surfers in the May of 1995. Randomly, selecting MUDs through the 'JANET' network I clicked on NannyMUD. I originally wanted to be called Misty but the name was taken, so for some reason, I thought of Mistress. One of the first people I met on there was Deathjester who never seemed to move from the Church, another was Wrathscarab the druid, and a strange guy called Optical.
Mistress The Newbie (Stupid).
I was such a newbie. I ended up talking to the NPC, Fritz for ages thinking he couldnt speak English and trying to be very interested in his Wurst box! Getting very frustrated with the drunk, I ended up shouting at him, to the delight of old mudders who saw 'Mistress shouts: at drunk'.
An Unfortunate Marriage.
I married Optical about one week after starting mudding, which was a huge mistake and I remember the wedding ceremony where I met Smiler and Zakalwe. Quite a few people were there, and the words I remember Smiler saying to me were 'Speak to me when you want a divorce'. Heh, I did that about 2 weeks later. One thing to say for Optical is that, he did introduce me to the Knights.
Joining The Knights Guild.
I was joined to the Knights by Goreon on Thursday June 15, at 15:51:47 in 1995. The next few months I remember with such fondness. I was good friends with several Knights, but namely Eolair and Maelstorm were the people I hung out with. Maelstorm and I, at Level 15 used to have 'wimpy' competitions where you switched off wimpy and the first person to run out of the room whilst killing the Golem was a wimp! Maelstorm was leading the party, and tried to force me out of the room with him, it was too late though, I died and he killed himself straight after. (Great fun).
Zakalwe the High and Noble Knight.I developed a great friendship with the brave Zakalwe. Zak was a wonderful Knight and one I will remember forever with admiration and respect. At this time in the MUD, was a Guild called the Damned Guild. The Damned were the oppositive of the Knights, evil, rude, kill-stealing, player-killers. The Knights Guild were at war with the Damned. These evil beings used to taunt several of the Knights, picking on the Round Table Knights in particular saying that they were 'flaps' and 'wimps'. They taunted Zakalwe for so long that he 'dested' his guardian angel, so that he could attack them and defend his knightly name and honour. Player-killing was not allowed in the Guild at the time, so Zakalwe was only allowed to defend himself if attacked and was not allowed to attack others. Zakalwe was hunted night and day on the MUD, and ended up being very frustrated, he couldn't safely go out killing monsters or questing and partying with him at the time was no fun at all. Zakalwe declared his intentions to the Knights, stood at the Green and fought every evil Damned Player-killer there. He died, prayed, died, and died again. He was level 1. He abandoned his character and played no more. His memory certainly will live with me. He was one of my best friends and I missed him so much.
