Katie Holmes In The 16 Spotlight
One on One with The Dawson's Creek
Sweetheart
When it comes to fave female TV stars, Katie
Holmes ranks high among 16 Magazine readers. As Joey
Potter on The WB's Dawson's Creek, she's smart,
introspective and a loyal friend to Pacey, Jen and
Dawson. But how much do you really know about this Dawson
girl? Does she totally dig her job? Does she always get
along wiht her co-stars? And what about all those
challenging emotional scenes? Well, you can find the
answers here yourself as we turn the 16 Spotlight on
Katie!
16: Are you all close friends on the set of
Dawson's Creek
Katie: We've known each other for a couple of years now
and have had this incredible experience together
16: Do you ever have fights?
Katie: Well, they're not really fights.
They're...disagreements, or little squabbles or whatever,
that you would have with your friends. They're just so
pointless that if one of us is in a bad mood, we might
say, "Oh, you're driving me crazy." it's so
nice and comforting because we are so close and have such
a history together, that we can get away with that. We
can get away with saying, "Okey, we've spent way too
much time together, and I'm leaving. Your driving me
crazy," or whatever.
16: With which co-star are you the closest?
Katie: Closest friend? Probably Josh [Joshua Jackson].
16: What do you like to do when you aren't
on the set?
Katie: Well, we work and live in a small town,
Wilmington, North Carolina. So I read a lot. I like the
classics. I really enjoy reading. I took English at
school and i only graduated high school about two years
ago.
16: Do you rehearse your lines at night,
maybe aloud, standing in front of a mirror, making faces?
Katie: No,no. I read them out loud a couple of times and
then I get off the page. Then I say them a couple more
times, and go to bed, and the next day I just let
whatever happens, happens. If it's a big scene I might
call whoever is in it with me to talk about it, but I
usually wait for the day
16: What type of scenes do you find most
challenging?
Katie: Definitely the more emotional scenes are more of a
challenge, but I like that. Those are the days that I
have the most fun because I know where I want to go, and
have to work harder to challenge myself to get there.
It's fun.
16: How do you prepare for those types of
scenes?
Katie: I listen to music a lot when I have those types of
scenes, some depressing songs. And I just think about
what I can relate the scene to in my lifethat makes me
upset, and i try to be in the moment and let things
happen. Actually, I'm not that good so I usually have to
take time to tap into something sad.
16: What makes you good company as a
girlfriend?
Katie: Well, lets see. I'm easy going as a girlfriend.
I'll go for a chat and have some junk food. I love junk
food. And I love to shop. I think I can handle the
girlfriend part. I can take jokes, and I don't mind
people having fun. I'm also a good listener and I make a
good shoulder to cry on. I try to give good advice but I
usually end up saying to friends, "You know, you''re
going to do what you're going to do, but this is what I
think..." And I'm right... sometimes!
16: It sounds like your very happy with your
life right now.
Katie: Yes, definitely. I think it's really exciting to
be 21 right now and a female. Because I think this time
offers such opportunities to women, and it seem like we
have so many choices. I think we have the best of both
worlds. We can have careers and I know this has been
going on for a while, but it's very exciting, and I feel
like I'm on the crest of a wave.
