Off the warehouse explosion engineered by Alcazar, yet another altercation breaks out between Jason and Zander. But in the midst of these two gunning for each other, by-stander Elizabeth winds up getting shot.
"In the immediate aftermath of the explosion, there's a big confrontation that starts with Jason and Roy," relates Guza. "Then, Zander steps in, who you know has been working for Roy and who has a major dislike of Jason." Zander holds a gun on Jason, "but in the process of struggling over the gun, Liz gets shot."
Rest easy that the injury is not life-threatening, but Guza assures us that it will further impact Liz's of-late peril-filled existence. "The key thing here is trying to dramatize the volatility of the whole situation," explains the scribe of Liz's relationships with the two men in her life. "In fact, both Jason and Zander are dangerous. Liz's physical injury is not going to be serious, but the emotional injury is significant. Liz has now been kidnapped, trapped in a crypt, nearly gassed to death, blown up and shot. And you thought your week was bad?" he jokes.
Despite all of this, when questioned by the police, the intrepid Ms. Webber protects Jason and Zander. "In a sense, it is the truth that she tells the cops," reasons Guza, "that it was an accident. Jason didn't give Zander the gun and say, 'Wing her'. She just doesn't go into detail about what happened. She basically toes the line."
That obviously leaves her in good stead with both men, but not necessarily any closer to a decision about which one she's looking to as a love interest. "It's hard to say that it's stronger one way or the other," muses Guza. "Zander is the more available of the two. And he's the one who went through the crypt (saga) with her, so they have really connected. On the other hand, you have Jason, who said to her on several occasions, 'We can't be together, it's too dangerous.' And then off of the shooting, he reasserts that he cannot be with Liz, he cannot be with anybody. But there's this strong, compelling, irresistible magnetism with Jason that she can't deny. Then the question becomes-like the question we used to ask with Brenda, Sonny and Jax-'Who's best for her?'
"So, Liz is still between them," concludes Guza. "We're not trying to say that she's making a choice yet. She's still very much caught between these two men." |
