Sick Day

I must confess. This idea came from reading Blindsided by Fate. The idea isn't my own.....I just felt like playing with it for a bit. The characters aren't mine either, they belong to NBC until I win the 999 million dollar lottery, then It'll be mine. But for now, I'm not even old enough for a ticket.....so just read the story

This is set long before the wedding.

Plans for the Week

"Daphne? Are you ready to leave? Freddie is expecting us to be on the plane when he meets it in New York." Frasier said, peeping into Daphne's room. Daphne was still in bed. "Daphne, the plane leaves in an hour and a half...come on, get up."

"Dr. Crane? Is that you?" Daphne mumbled. "Where are we going?" Frasier came further into the room. "Its freezing in here."

"Are you feeling all right? Its 80 degrees in here!" He felt her forehead. "Good God, Daphne, you're burning up! Do you want me to call Donny to stay with you?"

"I'll go with you....I'll be ready in," she tried to sit up. "Oh, 4 or 5 hours..."

"Nonsense. I'll call Donny." He lay her back down and covered her up.

"Chicago."

"What was that Daph?"

"Donny...Chicago." Daphne started shivering. "And Roz has Alice."

"And Niles is busy." Frasier said, knowing he wasn't. And as if it were a cue line, Nile entered the room.

"I came to see you off, Daphne? Are you all right?" he asked. Daphne nodded and pulled the blankets over her head.

"I'll stay with her Frasier."

"I don't think so Niles. Not with your little crush." Frasier said in passing. Niles pulled him back. Frasier was almost startled by his forcefulness.

"Frasier. I will stay with her. I will take care of her. Not take advantage of her. You know I wouldn't do that to her. She needs a doctor, not a coward who is in love with her. Let me stay with her Frasier." Frasier, for once, had more faith in Niles than anyone else.

"All right.....but I'll be calling once in a while to check up on you two. Do you want me to help you move her to the couch? It'll be closer to the kitchen and the bathroom...and the phone."

"No, not at the moment. She's resting peacefully in her room. Now you'll miss your flight if you and Dad don't leave now."

"Donny'll be back in 6 days, and we'll be back in 10 days. Take care of her Niles." Niles rolled his eyes. Eddie ran to Daphne's room carrying a box of tissues.

"See? Eddie can help you out Niles."

"Go!!!"

Sing us a song, You're the Piano man

Daphne laughed lightly at Niles's joke as he brought her orange juice and some aspirin. Her fever was down for the time being, so he stood and did Stand up comedy for her. She laughed at the impressions of Frasier and Martin. Daphne asked him to do Donny.

"OK...Donny." He nervously got his cell phone. "Hiii! Donny Douglas Here. Oh Daphne...I'll pencil the wedding in.....here. Can we have it in down town Chicago? I have a meeting at 4...." Daphne didn't smile. "Daphne.....I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be so cruel."

"No....he said that exact thing last week!!!!" She burst into tears. Niles held her tihtly as she cried on his shoulder.

"Is there anything I can do for you Daphne?"

"Sing for me?" Niles looked at her questioningly. "Donny never sang for me either," she said. "You don't have to."

"I want to. I was thinking about what song should I play for you. And I believe I have the perfect one....." Niles went to the piano and played the intro to Tiny Dancer. "You do like Elton John, right?"

"Yes....but I thought you only knew classical."

"Don't tell Frasier...." Niles said grinning. He began singing. At the end of the song, he turned to see Daphne sitting in the Frasier's chair right behind him.

"Do y'know any others?"

"Which one?"

"That garden one...." Empty Garden was her favorite song. Niles played it for her. Also, Something about the Way You Look Tonight and Your Song. Rocket Man was his personal favorite to play.

"Daphne, are you awake?"

"Mmm-Hmm." she mumbled. Niles moved her to the couch and went to start making some broth for later.

Niles came out of the kitchen with Daphne's dinner. She had awoke not 5 minutes ago. Niles had told her dinner was on the way, but she was still lying down. 'Perhaps she's not all that awake yet,' he thought to himself.

"Daphne, wake up. Its dinner time. You need to eat; it'll help you get better faster." No answer. "Daphne?" He felt her cheeks. "Oh my God. Daphne? Wake up." He ran for the thermometer. Returning quickly, he placed it gently under her toung. It beeped and he took it out to look. It read 104.4. "Daphne, we're going to the hospital now." He grabbed his keys and lifted her up carefully, so as to not injure either of them.

The Waiting room

Niles paced back and forth in the ER waiting room. The sound of his cell phone broke the loud silence.

"Niles Crane, It had BETTER Be GOOD!"

"Niles! Where the hell are you! You didn't answer the phone!" Frasier said coldly, thinking he was in Daphne's bedroom.

"Frasier! I'm at the hospital. Its Daphne."

"Oh God, Is she all right?"

"I don't know Frasier...she had a fever of 104.4 so I brought her in. Frasier; when we got here, it had gone up. You'd better get here fast. Hold on, the doctor is here."

"Niles Crane?"

"Yes?"

"Ms. Moon is going to be all right. She just has a bad case of pneumonia. She told me its from staying in wet clothes too long."

"Frasier, she's going to be all right. Still get here....soon." He hung up the phone. "Can I see her?"

"Not yet. I want to talk to you. Why did you let her stay in wet clothes for so long! You're her fiancee and a doctor! You should take better care of her."

"I'm not her fiance. Her fiance is in Chicago. She is my father's physical therapist. She and my father and my brother share an apartment. If you should be chewing anyone out, it should be Donny, or my brother. Not me. I'd never have let her go out without an umbrella in the first place. Now, may I see Daphne?"

"Right this way, Sir."

"Daph? You awake?" Niles said.Daphne opened her eyes and saw Niles at her door. He had taken care of her, sang for her, and brought her to the hospital. She knew it was time to tell himm she was in love with him.

You and Me and Baby Makes.....5?

"Daph? You awake?" Niles said as he entered the room. Daphne had IV's hooked up to her. She looked very pale. Niles saw her smile up at him. He grinned and entered the room."Hello to both of you. Frasier will be here soon with Dad and Frederick. Roz and Alice are going to stop by tonight. So, How are you feeling, Darling?"

"Like I just had a baby!"

"You did."

"Well, I know that Stupid! Just shut up and kiss me and come see your daughter." Niles kissed Daphne and leaned down and kissed his new daughter, Rebecca.

"Daddy! We wanna see!"

"All right Marty, Alexander, Come see your new baby sister."

"How come there is only one of her and two of us?"

"Marty, you two are twins. Not every baby has a twin, Thank god." Daphne explained to the four year olds.

"Daph, you look great." Donny said, bringing flowers in.

"Donny! Get in here and give me a hug! How is Mel?" The two had remained close in the past 6 years, although, they never did get married.

"Great. I ALMOST have her conviced to start a family......"

"If I know Mel, she'll come around to the idea......sooner or later." Niles held the baby as she sucked her thumb lightly. "Daphne, I do believe she has your eyes." Niles kissed Daphne on the head lightly.

"Well, I had better scram. I have a meeting at 4." Donny left, now realizing he was lucky to have had Dahpne, and how much he missed her. 'Oh well....I got Mel.' he thought to himself.

"Daphne, do you know I have loved you since the day I met you?"

"Of course I do. Now Shut up and kiss me." she said, grinning.
