Tom slumped down into the soft chair in the corner of his and Kathryn's quarters. Easton was probably on her way with Erin from the school now. Erin would cheer him up. Easton and Erin could always make him smile. Kathryn used to be the light of his days, but since the accident, she began to treat him as a child. Even though he was back to normal, she still treated him as if he were ten years old.
The doors swished open. Tom smiled, expecting to see his six year old bounce into his arms, red curls covering his face as he hugged her, but it wasn't the case.
"Hello, Captain Janeway." His voice came out only half as bitter as it was supposed to. "Have fun on your shift?"
"Tom, watch that tone."
"Or you'll spank me? The giant ten year old boy you are trying to stay married to is being spoiled again. Poor You," Tom said as he sulked off into their bedroom. It became clear what he needed to do, so Tom grabbed a duffel and started sorting his clothes into it. Kathryn followed him into the bedrrom. "I'm going to stay with Harry until my own quarters can be arranged. Sorry, Kath, you blew it."
"Lt. Paris, I took you off duty the day after the accident. Just because I didn't put you back on the first week doesn't mean I don't intend-"
"This is the day I have been waiting for, *Captain* since the day we got stuck in the Delta Quadrent 25 years ago! I was so stupid to think you'd take my request seriously. You haven't taken me seriously for 6 Goddamn years. Even our 4 year old took me seriously, and he couldn't even *talk*!" Tom shoved the last shirt into the bag and zipped it closed.
"Tom, we've got another 5 months before we get home., and you've just been through a major operation. I don't want to loose you again, dammit!"
"You already did."

Easton and Chayton walked into the lounge and mess hall together and looked for a place to sit. Naomi would be meeting them there within minutes, and they would be discussing their new posts.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard stared longingly into his tea before he took notice of the two.
"Children, come. Join me," he said, smiling sadly at them. "You must be Chayton Torres, and Easton, its good to see you again."
"Goodevening, Captain Picard."
"Jean-luc for tonight, Easton. Your mother and I have been friends too long for her children to call me anything else. Your grandfather, too. Please, sit." The two sat; Easton, next to Jean-Luc, and Chayton, across the table. "I can't stop thinking about how alike you and your mother are. When she was 20, she was exactly like you, only not as fond of piloting." Easton chuckled. She noticed how sad he looked.
"Jean-Luc, are you all right?"
"In fact, you are exactly like her. I never could hide a thing from Kathryn. She's almost like a daughter to me." He sighed deeply. "I'm all right. Just a tired old man who misses his own little ship."
"Will you be Captain of Enterprise H?" Chayton asked softly. He had a feeling that Jean-Luc was wanting to stay in Starfleet as a Captain, but that it wasn't going to happen.
"I'm afraid not, young man. I'm nearly 70 years old, and I've been married less than a year to a woman I've loved for 50 years. I'd like to settle in on a planet much like the one you two know as home, and be content their for the rest of my life. Take it from an old man, the Alpha quadrant isn't want it used to be. Your parents aren't going to be happy there. Nothing left to Explore. Nothing new to see."
"Everything in that quadrant is new to us though, Jean-Luc," Easton said, bringing a smile to the old man's face.
"That it is, Ms. Paris, that it is."

Easton stepped off the shuttle, sheilding her eyes from the sunlight; it had been 5 and a half months since the last planet, Jagon 4. Her father draped an arm protectively around her shoulder. Reports wouldn't talk long to realise who they were; The Pilot of Voyager, and Delta, and start questioning them. Chayton held Sierra with one hand, and Taya Rose with the other. Taya Rose and Erin were between Chayton and Easton, as if to hide their younger siblings from the people.
The crowd of people moving toward the shuttle was getting closer, so Chayton lifted Sierra onto one hip, and Gene, being 5 years younger than Easton, but almost as strong, lifted Erin. Easton Took Taya Rose, and the children moved between their parents. Reports fired questions at them, and yelled for comments.
"Computer, Freeze program," Kathryn called when Erin started to cry. "Remove characters." The reporters dissappeared, and Erin ran to her mother. "Erin, I told you it would be really scarey. Please, honey, try to be brave. Gene won't let anyone hurt you. You have Daddy, Chakotay, B'Elanna, Beverly and Jean-Luc with me making sure no one can get past."
"I know, Momma, but I don't want to go there. Can't I just transport down with Naomi, Verdaano and Kimmie? I'll be very good. I promise."
"Honey, Naomi is going to be transported into the same sized crowd, if not bigger because she was the first Voyager child. This is the safest way to get you into Star Fleet Headquarters." Kathryn wiped a tear from the 6 year old's cheek and kissed it softly.
"Erin, we've still got another three weeks before we get there. You'll get used to it."
"But I want to go home, Gene. I don't want to go to Star Fleet, or Earth, or Jupiter. I wanna go home!" Erin ran from the holodeck towards Naomi's quarters.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Tom, she was terrified. Maybe we made the wrong descision." Kathryn paced back and forth across the bedroom another time before Tom pulled her onto his lap. Tom had left her a week after his operation, but didn't get as far as the turbolift before he turned back and met her gaze. She had gone after him; not to beg him to stay, but to ask him if he loved her as he used to before the accident. "I know she's going to hate us for this. She won't even come home."
"She's going to be fine, hon. Its you I'm worried about. We were so young when we got stuck here. I was 23, you were 34. Now look at us. We were stuck on Jagon 4 for 17 years, and in the Delta Quadrant for 7 years before that. You're 58 this year. Everything has changed, and I know you. You like things to stay the same. Remember how mad you were shen I moved the couch?"
"That's because I tried to sit where it was, and I missed. Gene was about a year old. He laughed just like you."
"Kathryn, please try and relax," Tom said, looking deeply into his eyes before she allowed him to kiss her cheek. "Everything will be okay. I promise."
Chayton kissed Easton gently. He was so much like Chakotay, and everyone knew he'd end up with Easton. Easton smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Happy birthday, Chayton." Easton handed him a small gift. He took the paper off and looked at the chip. "Come on, Holodeck 7 is free, and I want you to see what it is."
"But I wanted to give you your present."
"The joy of having the same birthday...come on. Mine later. You will love this!" The two ran down the corridor to the holodeck. Easton snatched the chip and loaded it. "Computer, run 'Happy Birthday Chayton 1'," she called. Suddenly, the river on Jagon 4 appeared. It was their place where they sat and fished, studied, talked, fought, hid from everyone else, and just went to be alone together in silence.
"Easton, its wonderful! How'd you do it?"
"Mom let me take a scanner down and make a few holoprograms. I've been saving these for today. For you." Chayton hugged her feircely.
"Thank you, Easton. Its the best present I've ever gotten." He smiled and kissed her again before handing her a gift. She started to open it. "Its not as wonderful as this, but I thought you might get a kick out of it."
"Chayton," Easton gasped as she lifed the ring from the box.
"Easton, its not an engagement ring, not yet. Its just a....what did you're father call it...a...Promise ring. Its from me to promise you that I'll always love you, and one day, when we're not 16 and 17 years old, maybe we could get married." Easton wiped a tear from her face. Chayton kissed her cheek softly. "I thought you'd like it," he whispered, smiling at her. She traced his forhead ridges and dimples. Later today, he'd be getting the tattoo his father so proudly wore. B'Elanna would probably flip out, but Chayton was Half Indian, and wanted to be just like his father.
"Your father always said, "A Janeway and a Chakotay belong together," Easton smiled. They all grew up hearing about Chakotay in-love with Kathryn, and she wasn't in-love with him. Chakotay was right. Janeways and Chakotays belong together.
Erin held on to Gene's neck. Jean-Luc had pulled his back out trying to lift her up, and now it was the real thing. Chayton had Seirra, and Easton had Taya Rose. The reporters crowded closer, but not as close as they had on the holodeck. Kathryn knew they'd be a little nicer with the children, but she programed them to be a little harsher each time just in case, so they would be prepared.
"Can we ask the kids a few questions?" One reporter asked almost calmly. They were standing back and letting the group of people walk.
"Yes, but please, try not to scare the younger girls. They're terrified as it is. The only one who's ever been on any planet but Jagon 4 is my daughter, Easton."
"Yes, Captain. Easton, tell us about your home planet."
"Its very beautiful. We lived in a nice forrest near a river. There were a lot of mountains. I've seen my Dad's pictures of Montana's Glacier National Park; its a lot like that, only a lot bigger. It was a wonderful place to live."
"Did you want to leave, Chayton?"
"Not really, but at the same time, I've got family here, and later on, when I get married and have a family, I can take them back. I intend to raise my children there."
"Gene, is it true that you are starting at the academy this semester, at the age of 12?"
"Yeah, My parents had me tested on the trip here from Jagon 4, since I've been repairing comm badges, warp nicells and tricorders since I was about 3. I can't wait to start. I helped B'Elanna and Chakotay repair shuttles a lot, and I am a pretty good pilot. My major is going to be science, though. Mom taught me a lot about science, and I scored a 99% on the science part of the entrence exam."
"Commander Chakotay, is it true that you let a man stay at his post on Voyager, and he ended up being killed?" a Vulcan man asked.
"No, he stayed as long as he could by his own choice. He was right behind me in leaving the bridge and was caught in an explosion."
"You lie, Commander. My father did not out rank you, and should have left the bridge before you. He died because of you being careless."
"Tuvok was my friend, as was Neelix and Samantha Wildmen. I would never hurt them. Tuvok's death was very devistating to all of us. It was no one's fault."
"Again, you lie." Kathryn stepped between the crowd and her family and crew.
"Exuse me. This little inquizition is over with."
"Sam Wildmen was my wife, and I know from my daughter that these people would have given their lives to save any one of their crew, including your father, you illogical bastard," the Kataren man called to Tuvok's son. "Kathryn herself took in my kid when she had no one. If you had been on the ship and your father had died, she'd have taken in you as well, and everyone here knows it but you."
"Enough," Kathryn told the man. "No one here is to blame for the deaths of the crewmembers but myself. I could have chosen a different course, or ordered them to leave the ship when the warp core went unstable, but I didn't. Your father, and wife were following my orders. And so was Mr. Neelix, Naomi's Godfather. If anyone here should be interigated, I'm the one to speak to." Tom protectively draped an arm across her shoulders.
"Why don't was all just go home and get some rest, Kathryn. The kids are tired. The spent most of the night in the breifing room. the entire crew is staying at a hotel until apartments, assignments, posts, or whatever can be arranged." Kathryn relaxed into his arm and took the children to the hotel.
Easton held to Chayton tightly. He wiped the tears away from her cheek and hugged her closely still. Tom and Kathryn were stationed on the USS Delta, but Chakotay and B'Elanna weren't staying in Star Fleet. Easton would be in space, and Chayton on Earth.
"I'll contact you every day, Chayton. I promise," Easton whispered. "I love you, Bear."
"We'll be together really soon. I promise. They can't keep us away from eachother forever, Love, they can't. Your parents need you there and mine need me here, but its just temporary. Its going to be all right. No more tears, Love." Easton buried her head in his chest breathing in the sweet scent of her beloved. "When you get back, I'll be here."
"Thats what people on Earth told the Voyager crew, and look what happened! I'm not going, Chayton, I'm not leaving you." Kathryn was on the verge of tears watching the tearful goodbye between the two. She needed Easton on board because even at the age of 17, she was the second best pilot. Tom was the best. B'Elanna and Chakotay needed Chayton on Earth to help restore farmlands to the planet; Earth needed more plant-life, or it could all die off in another century.
"Easton, Darling, we need to transport up." Kathryn was very soft-spoken, unlike B'Elanna had ever heard. It was obviously tearing her up to see her daughter like this. "You can talk to him every day. I'll make sure of it." Easton released Chayton from the vice grip she held on him, and kissed him one last time before stepping onto the transporter pad.
"I'll talk to you soon, East." Chayton was holding back a flood of tears, and only Easton could tell. "Love you."
"Love you too." Easton and Kathryn dissappeared into the blueish white light. Chayton let himself cry. B'Elanna had never in his entire life seen him cry; not even as a child. As a baby he fussed a little, but always remained calm. Now he was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Chayton," she said soothingly, taking her son into her arms, "Its all right. Lets go home."
"HOME!? YOU WANT TO GO HOME?" he screamed. "Home for you is here. Home for me is Jagon 4. Home for me is where ever Taya Easton Paris happens to be, Mom. There has not been one *day* that I haven't seen her since the Jagon 7 inncedent. I belong with her as much as you belong with Dad." B'Elanna looked at her son and hugged him feircely.
"I can't let you go yet, Chayton. You're still too young to be out on a ship without me and your father with you. Its only temporary."
"That's what Kathryn told Mark before she stepped on the pad to go to Voyager," Chayton said softly as he left the transporter room. B'Elanna knew he was right, but they needed him.
"Easton, are you going to be all right?" Tom asked sitting on her bed. Her back was facing him.
"Please don't say its temporary, and that I can call him on the comm screen every day, because you know, it just doesn't help." Her voice was flat and dead. There was no spark of life left in her. Her words stabbed Tom in the heart like a jack knife. "Its not the same and you know it."
"I know honey. We'll go home soon. Just give it a few months, and then we'll go home."
"What do you mean, home? We'll never go home. We''re never going back to Jagon 4, Dad, Never. You know that. I love Chayton, Dad. I don't know why I have to be torn away from him. Do you remember when you and Mom split up when I was little?"
"Yeah, I do. I can't stop thinking about it, every day. I almost lost all of you."
"Then how the hell can you take me away from Chayton?" Tom said nothing. What could he say?
7 months later
Atfer what seemed like an hour, the transpot landed, and Easton lept off, expecting to see Chayton by the gardens, and Erin in her old tree house, but the gardens had overgrown, the treehouse grounded, and the cabins nearly falling down. No one had stayed behind to work on them, and there must have been a storm that raveged through the village.
"Mom, its a mess," she breathed. After taking in the torn up village, Easton took a deep breath and started on one cabin by cutting a path with light phaser bursts. "It was ours."
"Yes."
"Mom, Chayton wants to live here when we get married.......if we get married." She sounded in doubt. "Its been so long since we spoke. I'm starting to worry. Its been 3 weeks. Three weeks with no word after speaking to him every day for 6 months."
"He'll be all right. We've still been in regular contact with Earth. There have been no major disasters, and they'd have told us if anything bad happened," Kathryn eased. "And if you are worried about him being with someone else, don't. B'Elanna said the only time he speaks to anyone is when you two talk."
"Something is wrong, Mom. I can feel it." Kathryn looked into her daughter's eyes, giving her reassurance. "I wish he were here now."
"I am," Chayton said popping out from his old cabin. "Easton!" he called. Easton ran to him, tackling him to the ground kissing him.
"How-"
"A month after you left, Mom and Papa put me on a ship headed this way to team up with Voyager. This was our rondevous point. Harry and Annika are waiting to transport down, but both ships let me come to surprise you. I know its been three weeks since we spoke, but through the last bit of the wormhole, we lot our communications array." Easton just held him tightly. "I'm just glad you're here, Love." Chayton looked deeply into her eyes like he had never seen them before and kissed her so gently and passionatly for a long moment.
"I missed you so much." Chayton smiled
"Good, because that will make your birthday present a lot more beautiful." Chayton knelt down, and Kathryn went into the cabin to give them some privocy. "Easton, You have given me the greatest gift; Love." He wiped a tear from her cheek. "Please don't cry. I know sometimes it seems we barely get by. But you don''t see how much you do to get me though. When the world is cold, and I need a friend to hold, you give me love. When my hope is gone, and I feel I can't go on, you give me love. Marry me?" Tears trickled down her cheeks as she nodded a silent 'Yes,' and pulled him into her arms and kissed him.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, Lana?"
"What's that?"
"Earth. Grandma Kathryn was born there. So was Grandpa Tom. Thats where they were taking Voygaer to."
"From where?"
"From the other end of the Delta Quadrant, all the way to the Alpha Quadrant."
"Wow! Did they make it?"
"Yep. They made it home, but they stopped on this planet where me and Daddy were born and lived here for a long time first."
"Can I go see it?"
"One day, Lanna, we'll go visit. Your Grandma would love to see you." Easton pulled the blankets around her three year old daughter as Chayton tucked in their 6 year old son, Jack.
"Mom, Kathy's up," nine year old Tommy said, handing her the 3 week old baby girl. "Uncle Gene just flew in from Earth. He just made history.....again. It took him 13 minutes this time." Easton grinned.
"Did he bring your Grandmother?"
"Nah, she's with Erin. Gene came to get you. Erin's having the baby, and the comm link is down."
"All right. Tell him I'll be along as soon as the younger ones are tucked it." Easton kissed the two small children and roughed Tommy's hair. "I'll see you tomorrow, Bear. Love you."
"Love you, too, East. Give them my love." Easton smiled as she ran fer fingers over his tattoo; it match Chakotay's.
"Bye, Love."
