"Welcome one and all to the last Neelix's Talent Night. As you know, Tomorrow, I'll be leaving to join the other Talaxians. Anyway, enough of that. On with the show." Neelix bowed and left the stage.
"Tonight, our first loser, I mean, performer, will be Harry and the Delta's," Tom announced. The curtain opened to reveal Harry with the saxophone and his back up band in 1950s clothing and old fashioned instruments. "They will be performing 'Only You,' from the mid 1950s."
The front row consisted of performers only, most wearing something to hide their costumes. Kathryn noticed Chakotay was in the performers row for a change.
Harry and the Delta's performed wonderfully. Everyone cheered as they bowed and ran off stage as the curtains closed.
"Wonderful! Wonderful!" Neelix cheered as he stepped back on stage. "Well, that was just amazing. Who's up next, Tom?"
"The Doctor and Seven of Nine will be playing Heart and Soul on the piano and singing."
"What a treat this will be!" Kathryn was noticing the theme of the talent night was love as the two began. It was a perfect performance. Yet somehow, Kathryn felt that it was a set up of sorts. As the two left stage, and the curtain closed, Neelix stepped up. "How lovely! How about another round of applause?" After the clapping died town he looked to Tom, who winked. Kathryn caught it, and now was sure it would be a set up. "Next up is...?"
"Naomi Wildman with a lovely ballet routine to 'Return to Innocents," from the late 20th century." The lights dimmed again and the curtain opened to Naomi, who was holding a pose on the floor. As the music started, she gracefully lifted her head and slowly stood, moving to the music. It hit Kathryn that the first word of the song was 'Love,' but was too captivated by the little girl's graceful leaps and spins to the music. No one had any idea Naomi had been learning to dance on the holodeck. The song fir her perfectly. She had the light colored hair, and big innocent eyes. It was truly inspiring. Kathryn almost was embarrassed to dance after her, even if she wasn't up for quite a while. Naomi resumed the pose as the music ended. Everyone cheered and clapped.
"That was beautiful, Naomi!" Neelix said to her as the curtains closed, wiping a tear from his eye. "Wow, That was simply amazing. Who knew we had such an amazing little girl on board!" Everyone cheered again.
There was seven other performances of the evening, not including Kathryn and Chakotay. Two Ensigns sang a duet, there was a small magic act, a few other love songs and then Kathryn, followed by Chakotay.
Her dance was to anther song from the 20th century; Your Song by Elton John. It was another love song, but it wasn't part of the crew's plan. It just happened to fit in.
After her dance and the applause, half the front row was waiting to go on stage. Now she KNEW there was something going on.
"Next up we have Commander Chakotay in his debut performance. He's not told us anything except he's singing. Apparently, his hidden Talent." Kathryn knew this is where it would all come together. "His back ups will be Harry and the Deltas on saxophone, drums, guitar and bass guitar, The Doctor on the piano, and Seven, Samantha Wildman, and Naomi as backup singers and dancers." They were all in on it.
"This song is called 'Madeline,' but we're changing one word in it for the occasion. Deltas, if you please," Chakotay said, nodding to the band. It started and Chakotay sang. "Out my window a memory, I'm dying inside, I know the way it should be, Even though it was right in front of me, It's something I just couldn't see.
"Your lonely face, Your lonely eyes. But this is something you can't disguise. It's not just me, you feel it too. 'Cause you know I belong with you
"Look at where we're going. Tell me what can I say. We're tracing our. footsteps. We're going the same way
"Oh Kathryn, Here we go around again. You know it, I know it, don't try to pretend. You know it could be so much better than it's been. Ooooh, here we go around again.
"I was empty inside but I just didn't know. You are my ten thousand roses and I let you go. Before I make the same mistake just hold me in your arms. We belong you know it in your heart. Look where we're going. No doubt in my mind
Can't you see it's meant to be. Oh, oh, oh...my Kathryn. Here we go around again
You know it, I know it, don't try to pretend. You know it could be so much better than it's been. Ooooh, here we go around again." The three back up singer's solo began as Chakotay danced around the stage.
"Here we go 'round again. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go 'round again. Said here we go. Here we go 'round again. Here we go. Here we go. Here we go 'round again." The guitar solo cut in as Naomi stepped up and danced with Chakotay. As it ended, she back flipped back to the back up mic, as he front flipped to the front.
"Look at where we're going. Tell me what can I say. We're tracing our footsteps. We're going the same way. Oh my...Kathryn Here we go around again. You know it, I know it, don't try to pretend. You know it could be so much better than it's been. Ooooh, here we go around again." He stepped off stage and walked to Kathryn as the backups finished the song.
"Kathryn, here we go 'round again. Kathryn, here we go 'round again. Kathryn, here we go 'round again. Oh, my Kathryn."
"Please don't push me away, Kathryn." Kathryn pulled him into a sweet kiss as the last of the song swirled around them and the crew cheered, not only for the performance, but for their captain and Commander.
