Continuity notes

Plot inconsistencies:

  • In "Jury Duty," Doug is a defense lawyer; in "Counterpoint," he is a tax lawyer; and according to "Echoes of Love," "Moment of Truth," and "The Friend's Affair," he occasionally handles divorces
  • In "Monday Is Forever," Buddy's friend Laura is moving to Detroit; in "Childhood's End," she visits from Chicago
  • In the pilot: (1) Nancy is pregnant (with a child other than Timmy Jr.), and eventually announces her intention to keep it -- only for it to never be mentioned in any subsequent episodes; (2) Kate says, "I've borne 3 children" -- but per "Thursday's Child," she had borne 4 (counting Timmy Sr.)

    Credit inconsistencies:

    Actors:

  • The child playing Timmy Maitland has his last name variously listed as "Schackelford" and "Shackelford"

    Characters:

  • "A Tale Out of Season": Doug's colleague's last name listed as "Schuyler" in the credits; pronounced "Fre(e)mont" in the episode itself
  • "Expectations": Nancy's female colleague's last name listed as "Cornick" in the credits; pronounced "Guinness" in the episode itself

    Multiple appearances:

  • Fred Stuthman: "Jury Duty," as the judge; "Expectations," as Nancy's law firm's senior partner
  • Quinn Cummings: "Lifeline," as the kid Buddy babysits; "Starting Over" et seq., as Annie Cooper

    Characters played by multiple actors:

  • Nancy Lawrence Maitland
  • James Lawrence
  • Elaine Hogan
  • Mrs. Hanley

    Repeated theme combinations:

  • Alcoholics / swings ("Childhood's End," "Skeleton In the Closet")
