Matt is working for Hecla Mining Compay at the Rosebud Mine as a mine engineer. The mine, a small underground gold mine, is about 58 miles west of Winnemucca, near the Black Rock Desert. Alot of his time is spent on the computer, but he also gets to go underground to help out on the surveying crew. Matt really likes his job and the people he works with. |

Right now our hottest prospect is the old Dreamland Mine, about 4500 feet from where we are mining now. It has some neat old ruins to explore. |

Dreamland Mine - Open Stope |

The old miners worked this area by blasting open large working areas (called stopes). This is one of the open stopes next to the road (I want to go exploring!) |

Partially destroying the bed of Dad's pickup, Matt was able to bring home this large gear and crank and place it in the front yard. Stamped on one side of the gear is "V&T Foundry - Carson City Nevada". |

Some friends have recently purchased this closed mine to process the old leach pads for sand and gravel. It's a neat historic mining area to visit in Angels Camp, California. |

I dragged Kathy out the week before Daniel was born to go 4-wheelin (to see if I could bounce that kid out early). We visited UNR's student mine, the Burrus Mine. |
