CHANCE
See the paper this morning?

SCOTT
Look who you're asking.

CHANCE
The smoking ban was passed by the city council today.

SCOTT
I can’t believe that shit man. It’s just a bunch of pussies crying to get their way.

CHANCE
I thought you didn’t smoke.

SCOTT
I don’t, but I do support other people’s right to smoke.

CHANCE
Why is it such a big deal for smokers to smoke outside?

SCOTT
They should be able to enjoy their meal and cigarette within the comfort of a heated building.

CHANCE
Shouldn’t nonsmokers be allowed to enjoy their meal as well?

SCOTT
No one is forcing them to eat there. Most establishments have separate smoking and nonsmoking sections, and when the first ordinance was passed last year, the eateries that still had smoking sections put them in an entirely different room.

CHANCE
Nonsmokers just want the option to eat there if they want to.

SCOTT
Why are the rules changed for them? What if I wanted to eat at a restaurant but I didn’t like the decoration? Should I go to the City Council to bitch and moan until the restaurant is forced to take it down? The proprietor of the business should be the one to decide if they allow their patrons to smoke or not. They pay their taxes and follow the rules. Why should they not be allowed let people smoke in their building?

CHANCE
If you are so against their decision, why weren’t you there arguing for the smokers?

SCOTT
I have better shit to do. Like saving the world here from an alien invasion.

CHANCE
Lazy ass. Say, uh, what’s on the agenda for tonight?
