Anticipating

I don’t own them. I don’t claim to. It’s all for fun.

Diane was curled up on the bed crying silently. She hadn’t wanted to tell
Billy because she was so sure he'd
stay. When he hadn't even hesitated about going, it had hurt her. He
dismissed the first four months as
nothing. Well, it didn't feel like nothing to her. She needed him. Right now
she felt lonely and abandoned, and
he hadn't even left yet. What was she going to do when he was gone? She
heard the shower turn off and dried
hr tears. She wouldn't let Billy see her cry.

She felt him crawl on to the bed and wrap his arms around hr. "Hey baby
doll." Billy nibbled her neck and
cheek. "Have you been crying?"

"Mood swing."

"You need to get ready for work."

"I know that, Billy. I just like to be able to move without vomiting."

He picked her up and carried her into the bathroom. "Then we'll just have to
get you ready with as little effort
as possible, won't we?"

If Diane was worried about breaking the news of her pregnancy at work, she
needn't bothered. Billy took care
of that. By mid morning, Diane swore the whole city knew. She was filling
out a chart, trying to control her
nausea.

"Congratulations Diane." Diane looked up.

"Thanks Kate."

"Billy is about to burst."

"Yeah."

"Is he at all disappointed about South America?"

"He's still going."

"Oh."

"What?"

"It's just that, for me, emotionally, the first four months were really
rough."

"Yeah, well, it's all hormonal anyway."

Billy found her flopped in her old lab. "You ready to go home?"

"Yeah."

"Still nauseated."

"MMM. It’s better."

He sat next to her. "What's on your mind?"

"I’m going to miss you so much."

Billy wrapped his arms around her. "I’m going to miss you too, baby doll."
