"The Music Lesson"

Vermeer was a 17th century Dutch painter who lived in the little town of Delft. He painted in the second floor of his house, surrounded by five screaming children, while his domineering wife ran the restaurant downstairs. The fact that he painted 13 masterpieces of such startling clarity and peacefulness akin to modern photographs is a testament to his self-control and latent insanity.
