End the Violence

UPDATE: It's been one year. The anniversary of a very sad day in history. At this point I would like to take a moment to Thank everyone out there who has put their efforts into ending violence. I know that there is a way that we can all live in peace and without fear. I don't want to highlight all the horrific events that have taken place in the 365 days since Columbine, but at the same time, ignoring the problems will not make them go away. I guess I have few words to say regarding this at the moment. I DO want to clarify though: For those of you out there, who are living in violent situations, or who are looking for a way out, there is one out there. Many organizations, non-profit, government and otherwise, are working to help young people to better their lives, to take the violence out of society and to bring a peace to the lives of young people and their families. Some of these I have listed at the bottom of this page along with my other links. Thank you again.

This part of my page is dedicated to ending the violence that seems to have captured our youth. In the wake of the Littleton, Colorado shooting and all the other massacres that have rampaged through our nation I feel somewhat compelled to take a stand.
While I am merely one person, those of you who read this are a larger populus. I know that you all must agree with me when I say that our youth deserve to feel safe in their schools. A place of education is no longer a place where our children can go to learn and feel safe. Personally I feel safer these days, walking into a Post Office, Airport, or Courthouse, than I do a public (or even private) school. From what I have read and gathered (and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong) since 1996 about 27 people(maybe more) have died in school shootings in the United States alone. This is a devastating statistic. While less youth are dying, more deaths are being attributed to guns. More and more are being attributed to youths murdering their fellow students. These are frightening thoughts for any parent, muchless the students that must attend school everyday of the week.
I also decided to bring this topic to my page, because well, it has had an effect on the show that I love. Not only was one episode postponed, but the season finale(as you all should know by now) was also delayed for reasons due to the content of the show and the real life violence that has so dramatically unfolded around us. TV was never that important of a fixture in my life, and never will be. I, like many enraged fans, am also upset by the desicions of the WB network. At the same time though, I am empathetic to the events occuring around the globe.
I am not saying that it is neccesary to take one show off the air to 'save the children' or anything. Honestly, I have watched shows much, much worse on the violence factor than Buffy. All I know is that SOMETHING has crawled into the minds of these people committing these crimes. It's up to the ones around them to take the responsability and watch for signs. If you think that someone in your school or a friend of yours may be on the verge of a horrific act such as a shooting, take the upper hand. Go to someone who will listen, and can help. Tell a teacher, parent, or the authorities. You might save yourself and others from living through, or dying in such a horrid manner.
I am still working on this part of my page. I want to make it a large part of my page, just for the sake of maybe reaching someone, anyone, in a plea to end the violence.
