Chapter Eighteen

The Night of the Crystal Ball, continued...

As they where entering they passed Hayley and Mateo. "Gillian you look great." Hayley told her as they stopped to talk to the couple.

"Thanks Hayley, I love your dress." Hayley was wearing a long black dress with two slits up the side. Her hair was pulled back in to a French twist.

"I still can't believe it." Ryan told them. "I was actually invited this year." They all laughed.

"Yeah, at all the Crystal Balls something dramatic has happened." Mateo remarked. "Remember the first one?"

"Yes, I remember it. Dimitri tried to kill me and then he almost died when the tree fell on him." Gillian told them.

"Kill you?" Ryan asked his eyes wide. "A tree?"

"You weren't in town so you wouldn't have heard about it. It was just something between Edmund and Dimitri. Gillian can explain later." Mateo told him.

"Anyway, we should talk about happier things, like when do you think your wedding will be." Hayley said.

Ryan and Gillian looked at each other. "We haven't really talked about it." Ryan confessed. "But we will. Very soon."

"And this time, I promise to marry the right man."

"Well that's a start to a good marriage." Hayley joked. "I see my Dad and Liza over there so I guess I should go say hi. We'll see you guys later."

Once they where alone again, Ryan leaned over and whispered into Gillian's ear. "Do you remember last New years eve?"

Gillian smiled. "Absolutely, I was with you wasn't I?"

Just as Ryan was about to reply, Eugenia came over to them.

Gillian darling you look stunning. And Ryan, you are as handsome as ever. Are you enjoying yourselves. Eugenia asked them.

"Yes of course we are." Ryan told her.

Gillian saw her grandmother had a huge smile on her face. "Grandmama, why are you so happy tonight?"

"Why shouldn't I be happy? Ryan and You are engaged."

"There is more to it then that Grandmama, what's up?"

"Oh I see Edmund over there, I should really go talk to him." Eugenia said quickly leaving the two of them alone.

"What was that?" Ryan asked laughing.

"Grandmama is hiding something from me."

"Gillian, She's just happy that your happy."

"I don't think that's it."

"Don't worry about it Gillian." Ryan held out his hand. "Would you care to dance with me Princess?"

"I'd love to." Gillian answered as Ryan lead her toward the dance floor.
