Chapter Twelve
Ryan sat staring at Eugenia looking both lost and nervous "My God, what's wrong with me? Why do I all of a sudden have doubts about this? Why can't I just be excited and happy?"
Eugenia gently padded Ryan's hand "Ryan, darling do you love Gillian?"
Ryan nodded "Of course"
"Can you imagine your life without her?" she asked
Ryan shook his head "No"
"Can you see yourself with anyone else? Loving anyone the way you love Gillian?"
Ryan again shook his head "Never"
Eugenia smiled "I don't think your having serious doubts Ryan. I think you just have the case of pre-wedding jitters"
Ryan raised his eyebrows "Pre wedding jitters? That's it?"
Eugenia nodded "Sure, everyone gets them before they get married. It's just all your nerves getting the best of you. Don't worry about someday thinking you rushed into marriage, worry about what you and Gillian are going to do for your honeymoon. Worry about getting through this dinner tonight."
"But Eugenia" Ryan started
"AHHHH Ryan no buts" Eugenia corrected him "If you love Gillian with your whole heart, can look into Gillian's eyes and feel complete, and if you can't even imagine yourself with someone else, then you have nothing to worry about. And believe me, I have never seen two people more right for each other then the two of you. I knew it back before you did. You just have to believe Ryan. That's it"
Ryan finally broke into a smile "I guess your right. I mean I love Gillian more then anything. She makes up my other half, ya know? She is a part of me and she always will be." he paused "You know what? I feel like 100% better all of a sudden."
Eugenia smiled "See, all you had to do was believe Ryan"
Ryan quickly kissed Eugenia on the cheeck "Thank you" he said quickly "I have to go and change for the dinner so I guess I'll see you at the Valley Inn later?"
"Your very welcome Ryan" Eugenia said smiling

(Later, at the rehearsal dinner)
Ryan had gotten the wierd sensation that Gillian was dilerabtly avoiding him. She was distant with him when he picked her up at Wildwind, she wouldn't let him kiss her and the one time they danced she wouldn't let him get close. In fact he didn't think he had seen her smile or laugh all evening except when she was with anyone else.
He was sipping on a glass of iced water when heard a familiar voice behind him "Hey there stud muffin, where is the blushing bride to be?"
"Hey" he said turning to see Hayley standing with Mateo but he looked right past both of them as he eyed Gillian dancing with Edmund. He coudln't figure out what was wrong with her and it killed him.
"Something up?" Hayley asked
"No not really" Ryan said "Hey guys would you excuse me for a mintue?"
Hayley shrugged her shoulders "Sure why not? This is your rehearsal dinner anyway"
"Thanks" Ryan said placing his hand on her shoulder and as he made his way over to Gillian who was now alone.
He ran his fingers through his hair, adjusted his suit coat, and smiled as he apporached Gillian "Hey Princess, do you wanna dance?"
Gillian shook her head firmly "No"
Ryan looked suprised but continued "Ok, how about going to get something to eat with me?"
"Not hungry" she replied cooly
"Alright would you like to go talk to your grandmother or Dimitri or something?"
Gillian's eyes were full of anger "I do not need a personal escort. I know where the food table is and I think you've done enough talking to grandmama for the both of us. So if you'll excuse me I'm going to go freshen up."
Ryan held up his hands "Hey there calm down." he said grabbing her arm "You've been cold and distant all night now tell me what's the matter?"
Gillian cocked her head slightly to the side and shook loose of Ryan's grip "Oh don't play dumb with me Ryan. I heard you talking to grandmama. I heard you saying that you didn't want to marry me because it's too soon and you weren't ready. Well that's just fine with me. I'll just make it easier on both of us. I'm going to call the wedding off."
