Heads (A photographic reflection)

North Head is the remains of an extinct volcano on the sea shore. For over a century tunnels have existed on North Head as a line of defence for Auckland. In more recent times there has been a effort to assert weather there are other long lost tunnels which may contain one of the first planes built by Boeing as well as ageing munitions. The most recent search proved fruitless but still the rumours remain. Today the tunnels remain as tourist attraction. One in which kids make the most of their imagination as they charge through the dark passages trying to frighten each other (Or me frighten them. "ha !".).

When standing still in the tunnels you get the feeling of another time, a time of war. Now stripped and dark only shadows still live here.

Here I stand in what was
once was the old generator room.

Behind me stands one of the old guns.
In front of me just beyond the
gates stands a ladder out.

The shadows have found a place to hide the suns rays. Home of the shadows.

Here once upon ago a gun stood. Now this and the tunnels beneath are all that remain.

Textured surfaces of the tunnel wall.

Up the stairs, up ladder to the outside.
