3) Gone Away

The episode starts with Tom Price, who has found a shotgun in a farmhouse. He manages to bag a chicken, but before he can collect it, a boy appears, snatches the bird and runs off. Price gives chase.

They reach a shack, where the boy is living with a man - he is sick with what he believes to be typhoid. Price decides he doesn't really want his chicken back.

Greg, Abby and Jen have spent the night in the church. Anne was gone when Greg had gone back to fetch her. Abby wants to make the church her HQ in her search for her son. They go out in search of supplies.

Price stumbles across the church in his wanderings. He sees the three leave, and goes inside. He makes himself at home, eats and goes to sleep, as he observes, "Like Goldilocks and the three bears".

The three find an out of town supermarket and start gathering food. Abby discovers a body, hanging, with a sign "LOOTER" around its neck. Abby stubbornly decides to carry on collecting, although the other two are all for finding another shop.

As they're loading up outside, a LandRover turns up with three of Wormley's men inside. They recognise Abby, and accuse her of looting. They explain that everyone in the district must register at the HQ, and will then be issued a 'chit' allowing them to collect food from the supermarket. (They also explain that they didn't kill the 'looter', they'd just strung up a body they'd found as a deterrent).

Our three must either register, or move out of the district. They, of course, refuse to do either, so one of the men starts unloading the car, scattering the food across the carpark. While everyone is concentrating on this, Jen bravely snatches the gun off of the weakest looking man (Milner). The men are disarmed, the food re-loaded and the three make their escape, with the man in charge promising revenge.

They find Price back at the church, who is now keen to join them. It soon becomes obvious that he is as lazy as sin. He tells Greg of the man and the boy he'd met earlier. Greg tells Abby and our three set out on foot to find them, in case the boy is Abby's son.

They reach the shack, but both are dead. The boy is not Abby's. By the time they return to the church, Wormley's men have found the place. Milner is on guard outside - he warns them to hide, then tells his friends that he saw them running away. The men leave, but wreck the place first. Price decides to join them and register.

Abby can't believe they could have been so nasty, and decides she won't be able to settle in one place until she finds her son!
