I first heard Smitty's music around 1995. The name of the tune was "Place In This World".
The version I heard was an instrumental done by Bob Blum. The trumpet solo version was very interesting.
I thought "there must be a vocal version of this?" I proceeded to seek out the original version of the song and who sung it.
This lead me to Michael's "First Decade" album. A close second favorite on the album was the tune "Kentucky Rose".
I really like all the songs on it.
My next album I got was "I'll Lead You Home". This album is my absolute favorite.
The songs "Cry for Love" and the title track are clear favorites. By then, I was hooked into his music.
Next album I got was "Change Your World". A clear favorite here is "Somewhere, Somehow".
I've heard some of the older songs, but the newer ones brings memorable times.
The first concert I had attended came in 1996, it was really a well-done show. It was at Ames, Iowa.
Afterwards, I had (in the cold February winds, and a few other fans) the opportunity to meet Michael and get his autograph.
Ever since, I've tried to attended many of his concerts as time and place permits. Most recently, I had the chance to see him at
an autograph book signing ("Time To Be Bold" / "Live The Life")tour. I have read all four of his books he has written.
While "Place In This World" is a central theme, I'm grateful to Smitty and his music for what it's worth to me. I have done
a webring page gathering on Smitty, and I manage an interactive mailing list to the subject. This is "my place" to make
a mark in this world to help spread his music to others.
