(I guess it's spring
today or something)
Mmm, yep. Spring has sprung. Round about these parts, spring has been trying to start for a few weeks now. It was in the 70's last Saturday. Perfect excuse to ride down to the beach? Dairy Queen! Now as for yesterday, I might as well have brought out the wool coat.
Humph, and you guys back in Illinois (cou--ADAM--gh!) say I have it easy here with the weather. Liz and I both say enough of the "When are you guys coming home?", more like "When are you Illinois people going to come out here?". So.. check your calendars.
Work has been slow this week. Measure in the gray and rainy days, the week is literally inching by. I'm ready for Friday please. Please? Um, hello?
So anyway, my point of focus this week is on my cd collection. Well, not my cd collection in specific, but everyone's cd collection. Lately I've been on this downloading mp3 kick in order to find songs I haven't heard in eons. So I'm sitting here at the computer earlier downloading Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" (the full version thank you very much) and also this song used in "In The Name of the Father" (Daniel Day Lewis flick) that I used to like so much.
I remembered this song (Soup Dragons - "Divine Thing") that Sam Slade got me hooked on, and later found out that Adam had the single, so I borrowed it from him. I later bought it for myself and looked upon it at the time as one of the prized CD's. Funny how things change over time. My collection is a pretty good reflection of some phases I've gone through, but it won't necessarily give you a clue as to who is my absolute favorite performer. You might get an idea of the ones I like more than others, as I have a bunch of cds. Perfect example. Fleetwood Mac. I have a ton of their albums and I consider them one of my favorite bands, however I find that I go through hot and cold spells on them. I can go for a while without listening to them and suddenly "Rumors" is the only cd in the player for some time. Then there's the embarrassing things you will come across. Yes, I still have an old New Kids On The Block cd. I mean, come on! By the time I got my own CD player, I was not listening to them anymore, but Mom bought it for me anyway because she knew I had liked them at one time.
Then there's my very first CD purchase with my own funds, which was Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album. Fast forward to now? My last purchase, I can't even tell you what or when it was. I honestly don't remember. Actually, I think it was Paul Simon - Graceland. So now here I am pulling out old Rush albums (thanks sis) and laughing that I actually own Hootie and The Blowfish, wondering where my Led Zepplin disc with "When The Levee Breaks" has wandered off to. Stuff like that. Or realizing that I no longer have my Tori Amos cover of the Rolling Stones song "Angie" (quite beautiful, believe me). It's silly to think that a cd collection could reflect your phases in life, but it really does. What was happening when I bought The Cure's Greatest Hits? I was in college and had just broken up with my boyfriend and was relieved at being single again. Tori Amos' first cd? Going through my junior year of high school, listening to it on a field trip to that place with the high ropes course and thinking "If only spring would get here..".
Hmm... I happen to be thinking the same thing.
