Marlena is pacing in the garden, trying to make some sense of things. First we see about ten million flashbacks of her and John. Then, when those are FINALLY over, she begins to cry.
"Why did this have to happen now? our life was just beginning....now i'm so confused. kristen is the most despicable person i've ever met, other than stefano. but for some reason i feel partially grateful to her. After all, she did bring roman back. but she did it for the wrong reasons. now we have to go along with this charade, and i don't know what to think. should i tell her we refuse to play along, or that i'm going to do it--for roman't sake?" she said. John walks out into the garden. marlena starts BAWLING....
"It's gonna be okay, Doc. We're gonna get through this and then we're gonna get married. We'll have a big wedding with lots of--"
"Just stop! I don't want to think about that right now. I know you're heart is in the right place but, I just don't know how I can think about wedding plans when I know that the father of my children is upstairs dying," she said. "What will we do John? I mean about this whole situation...."
"We are not going to do it, we're not going to give in to Kristen....I don't mean telling Roman the truth....but this idea she has that I should sleep in her room is ridiculus! How's Roman going to know where I sleep? Besides, it's not safe in this house for you to sleep alone. I'm afraid something may happen to you."
Marlena gives him a great big hug, then they kiss, but it's interupted by a visit from Kristen.
"John, I'm almost ready for bed, common," said Kristen.
"No!"
"John, this is silly, you're sleeping in my room tonight. You wouldn't want Roman to know about you and Marlena would you? Come on and sleep with ME."
"Like Hell!"
"Kristen you may have lied to Roman about everything going on around here, and we may have to go along with it, but that's taking it just a bit too far. Roman won't know where John sleeps," Marlena said.
"Alright fine, but how can you sleep in the room right next to the man who's madly in love with you, and thinks your single, and is dying of a terminal illness. how can you knowingly sleep with john under these circumstances?" Kristen asked.
"John, maybe she's right," said Marlena.
"Please just give me another chance john! i can make you happier than she ever could! i love you! I--"
"Save your breath Kristen. I'm not going to give you another chance. You're not capable of love. You could never make me as happy as Marlena can. I'm getting tired, it's been a long day, let's go to bed Doc. "
"Alright," she said.
They walk away, arm in arm.
Stefano has watched the whole thing from Peter's house.
"D@mn you John Black....How can Marlena not be affected more by this plan...it just doesn't make sense, " he said.
"John's love gives her the strength to go on, sir. I think his being there makes her feel better," Bart said.
"D@mmit! Get out! GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Bart leaves before Stefano has an accident.
"Actually Bart, you've given me an idea...."
This episode begins with Marlena and Carrie outside Roman's room....Marlena just got a call on her cell phone from Mike.
Doc: Mike, what is it?
Mike: I have some news about Roman's condition.
D: Well?
M: It's a long shot....but at least it's something.
D: Please tell me what it is.
M: We need to go to L.A. There is a specialty hospital there that says they may have a cure. Lexi can be Roman's attending physician while we're on the trip.
D: Mike, I can't leave him while he's like this. I just can't.
Carrie: What's going on Marlena?
D: Mike says there may be a cure, but I'd have to go to L.A. I can't leave Roman though.
C: I'll go.
D:You will? Oh, Carrie, thankyou so much. Mike, can Carrie go with you?
M: Sure.
Mike comes and picks Carrie up and they leave for Los Angeles. Marlena and John wish them good luck and say goodbye.
Marlena: John, what if it really is a cure? What will we do.....about us?
John: Do we have any choice? We'll tell him the truth. Then we can be married.
They kiss......very passionately I might add. Then they head towards the stairs.....you get the point.
Stefano and Kristen watch this scene on the monitor.....both are getting pretty pi$$ed off.
Stefano: Kristen, we've got to do something about this.
Kristen: What can we do? You need to come up with a plan.
S: I've already got one.
K: Well.....what are you waiting for, what the h*ll is it?
S: You'll find out.....all in time.....right now I'm still working on the details.
K:D@mmit Stefano tell me what it is!
S: Kristen Dimera, don't you ever take that tone with me again!
K: I don't have to take this.
(She leaves.....Stefano sits down to play chess)
Carrie and Mike arrive at their hotel in L.A. They go to the desk to check in.
Clerk: Name?
Carrie: Brady and Horton
Clerk: I have one room under Brady, but none under Horton.
Carrie: Well I booked two rooms.
Clerk: I'm sorry, but we only have you down for one.
Carrie: Well we need to get another one.
Clerk: We're all booked up. I'm sorry.
Carrie goes to Mike, who's been waiting out of earshot.
Carrie: Mike, we have a slight problem with the rooms.
Mike: What?
Carrie: They made a mistake booking them, and there's only one room available.
Mike: Well, I can stay at another hotel.
Carrie: It's late, besides I already called several that are full.
Mike: Well, where am I going to sleep?
Carrie: You can stay in my room....if that's alright.
Mike: That's fine with me.
Carrie: Alright, then let's go.
They go to the room. There are flowers everywhere, and romantic music is playing on a radio.
Carrie: Wow! They sure do know how to make a room romantic!
Mike doesn't say anything. He's trying not to reveal his feelings for Carrie.
Carrie: That song. That's the song we danced to on the roof.
Mike: Would you, like to dance?
Carrie: I'd like that very much.
They go out on the balcony and dance in the moonlight....at first keeping a distance between them, but in the middle of the song, his hands go down farther on her, and he pulls her right up against him.
Carrie: This has been a wonderful night.
She looks up in his eyes. He says nothing. He just wants to look at her.
Carrie: Mike, are you alright?
Mike: Yes, I was just noticing how beautiful you look in the moonlight.
Carrie: (trying not to get involved in anything) Mike, I--
Mike: I know, you love Austin. I would never ask you to betray him.
Carrie: You know, you're a real gentlman.
Mike: (sadly, feeling sorry for himself) That's me. I'm a gentleman. For the first time in my life, I don't feel very happy about it.
Carrie: Mike, you're a great guy, but I really don't know if I'm over Austin. I mean, I don't think we're ever going to get back together, but I don't know if I'm ready for anything yet.
Mike: I understand. You, want to call room service and order dinner?
Carrie: Actually, if you don't mind, I'd like to keep dancing.
Mike: Mind? Why would I mind? I love dancing, especially with you.
They look into each others' eyes, and, knowing what's about to happen, both draw closer to one another. They begin to kiss, and Carrie tilts her neck, for him to move down farther. He grabs the lapel of her jacket and tosses it onto the floor. Carrie pulls off his as well, then untucks his shirt. They lean back onto the floor, and make love.
The next day....
Carrie and Mike go to see a doctor. He gives them good news about Roman and says that there is a cure, but it sometimes causes cancer. It can be treated though, so they agree to it. Mike goes to call Marlena.
John and Marlena are waking up.....having a sweet conversation. Marlena's cell phone rings. It's Mike.
Doc: Hello?
M: Marlena, it's Mike. I've got good news and bad news. The good news is we think we've found a cure. The bad news is it's experimental, and it's been known to cause other problems such as cancer in patients whose bodies, for one reason or another, react to the drug. What do you think?
D: Can the cancer be treated?
M: Yes.
D: Then what are we sitting around discussing it for? I don't care about the risks...that's the only thing that has any chance of saving him, and I want to try it. Thankyou so much Mike.
M: Well then, Carrie and I should be home this afternoon. Bye.
D: Bye.
Doc: John, there's a cure for Roman, but it can sometimes cause cancer. It can be treated though, so I think Roman's going to be alright.
J: That's fantastic!
D: I'm going to go see him.
Marlena goes to Roman's room....he's asleep, so she doesn't want to bother him. As she gets to the door, his heart monitor begins to beep.
Marlena: Oh my God!! Lexi! He's flatlined!
Marlena is in Roman's room, as his heartbeat has just stopped.
Doc: Lexi! Someone help! John!
John and Lexi run into the room, and Kristen watches from the door.
Lexi: Oh, my God! (to assistants) We'll have to shock him. Otherwise he'll die.
They try several times unsuccessfully, and finally, Marlena begs Lexi to try again.
Marlena: Please, one more time.....
Lexi: It's hopeless.
Marlena: One more time! I love him D@mmit! Try again!
John hears her say this and walks away, and Kristen follows him.
Lexi: Alright. Let's try it again.
They try one more time....
Lexi: We've got a pulse.
Marlena: Thank God!
Meanwhile, in LA....
Carrie and Mike are talking to the doctor before they board his private plane back to Salem.
Dr: We'll be taking off in a few minutes.
(His cell phone rings.)
Dr: Hello? You did!? Oh, my God! I'll be right there!
(puts the phone down)
My wife has gone into premature labor! I have to go. I'll send another specialist to Salem tomorrow. Take my plane home. He'll take it on his way back to L.A.
Carrie: Thank you.
Mike: Good luck on your wife.
Dr: Thank you. Goodbye. Good luck with Roman.
Carrie and Mike are alone on the plane. After takeoff, they discuss the night before.
Carrie: Mike, I'm really sorry about last night. It shouldn't have happened.
Mike: Don't apologize. I started it and I'm sorry. But Carrie, it was great. That was the best night of my life. And I love you, regardless of how you feel about me.
Carrie: Mike, I'm just not really in--
Mike: You can't tell me you're not in love with me because we made love.
Carrie: You're right. I am...but I love Austin too.
Mike: Austin is with Sami now.
Carrie: He doesn't love her. He loves me. I'm sorry Mike. I never meant to hurt you.
Mike: It's okay. I understand. But I also know that you do love me. And I want you. I'll always want you. You're the best thing that ever happened to me. I'll never be able to get over you. You're an amazing woman Carrie.
Carrie: I'm sorry Mike, but I'm determined to get Austin. But right now, I'm going to concentrate on my Dad. They fly in silence the rest of the trip.
Back to John & Kristen
John is in his&Marlena's room. Kristen walks in.
John: How dare you walk in here. Why would I want to talk to you?
K: John, I heard everything. It looks like Marlena wants to be with Roman. And since Carrie and Mike found a cure, they can be together. I love you John, and I'd never leave you for anyone else.
J: Kristen, I'd never love you. Not EVER!! You are a dipicable person. And I intend to move out of here as soon as Roman's well...as will Doc. She still loves me. I know it...I know it...she does...she really does.
Marlena walks in.
Marlena: Kristen get out. I need to talk to John.
Kristen: Fine.
(of course she goes to the door and evesdrops on their conversation)
M: John, I know you heard what I said. But you know I love Roman. We discussed that. I know it hurts you to hear it but he has fathered two of my children. And I also consider Carrie my daughter.
J: I know. I thought I understood. I mean I do understand. I thought that was enough to help me through this. But Doc, I just don't know if I can take it. I need to know that you love me alone. And that I'm not just the replacement for Roman.
M: You were never a replacement. You're my soulmate. I love you. I want to marry YOU. YOU are the man I've waited my whole life to be with. Of course I love Roman. But oh, not the way I love you. J: You mean that?
M: Let me convince you. (They kiss, and he pulls the straps on her dress down.....and...)
Kristen: (in the hall, to herself) I've got to find Stefano. We have to break the two of them up!! I swear John, on my mother's grave, that I WILL NOT let you spend another night with that tramp!! I just won't!!!
Kristen/Stefano:
K: Stefano, we've got to break up J&M, what's your plan?
S: Kristen, it's very complicated, but the bottom line is make Marlena think John loves you.
K: How the hell do you expect me to do that?
S: Well...that's part of my plan. I need you to make a phone call. Here's exactly what I want you to say.
(he hands her some index cards)
(she smiles)
K: good idea. but how are we going to get her to tell us what she knows?
S: agree to help her in any way you can. if that doesn't work, i'll threaten her.
K: alright, but i like her. so don't hurt her in any way, got it?
S: Kristen, in your position i wouldn't make threats. but no, i will not hurt her.
J&M
Marlena: Convinced?
John: Well....I don't know....maybe we better try again and make sure...(smiling)
M: Well, I would, but you know Carrie and Mike will be here soon. I'm sure they'll have the specialist with them, and we need to be dressed and ready when they arrive.
J: Alright.
C&M
(they haven't spoken ... the plane landed.)
Mike: I'm sorry Carrie. Look, I don't want to hurt you. I want you to be happy. I just think I can make you happier than Austin.
Carrie: Well...I'm going to give him a week, and if he doesn't show me any sign of hope then I'm through with him.
M: Well....I don't think you should end your relationship with him over me. Forget about me. I'll never try anything like this again.
Austin
A: (to himself) I think I'm going to buy some flowers for Carrie and greet her at the plane. He leaves.
C&M
Mike: Look, you know how I feel. So if you still want to be with Austin fine. I'll accept that. But will you give me just one last kiss? (Carrie says nothing....she just goes over to him and gives him a huge kiss, the most passionate thing since J&M's first kiss after K was exposed.)
Austin arrives and goes up to the door of the plane. He sees them kissing and throws the flowers on the ground. Then he walks away.
K&Stefano
K: I hope she gets here soon.
S: There's her car. I better leave. Call me when I should come in.
K: Alright. (opens door at Peter's house) (It's Sami)
Sami: Hi Kristen. What did you want to see me about?
K: I know your memory is back.
Sami: How dare you accuse me of something like that?
K: I saw you on a monitor of my house scheming with Lucas. It's okay, I won't tell.
S: You won't ?
K: Not if you help me.
S: Help you what?
K: Break up your mother and John.
S: I don't want them to be together, so I'll help you in any way I can.
K: I need to know everything you know about the drug you used on Austin.
S: Here. I'll write it down for you.
(She grabs paper and pen and writes down all the information she knows.)
S: When you've gotten it, burn this paper.
K: Of course. Thank you Sami. I'll call you if I need another favor.
S: Try not to ask too many. I have my hands full with Austin and Will.
K: Alright. Bye.
(Sami leaves and Stefano comes in)
S: Why didn't you call me in.
K: For once Stefano I thought about something and did it right. If you'd come in Sami would have had a fit. She only wants to help me so I'll break her mom and John up. But she wants Roman and Marlena to get back together. You want marlena. Think about it. if i'd told her she would have freaked. then she never would have agreed to help us.
Stefano: Kristen--I am very proud of you today. You have shown me that you do have the mind of a DiMera.
K: Here's the information on the drugs.
S: I'll get started on it right away.
J+M & C+M
John and Marlena are in the living room. The doorbell rings.
Doc: That must be Carrie & Mike.
John: I'll get it.
They all come in.
D: Where's the doctor?
C: He's flying in tomorrow. Actually, it's a different one. Dr. Baker couldn't make it--his wife went into premature labor.
D: Oh, that's terrible. So he's sending someone else?
M: Yes.
D: Well, as long as he's qualified. Would you like to go see Roman?
C: Yes, I would.
D: I haven't told him yet. I thought since you were the ones who saved him, I'd let you tell him.
C: Marlena, you were the one who saved him. I just went to get the doctor--you found him.
D: Well, let's go.
(all go upstairs. kristen comes in--she has the drug)
K: I'll just wait in your room John.
(goes up stairs into J&M's room. Fixes two drinks. Puts drug in one.)
(John walks in.)
J: What the hell? Get out of my--I mean your--I mean....get outta here!
K: Relax John. Have a drink with me. I know you'll feel a lot better after you get a drink.
J: Kristen, when are you going to understand? I don't love you. Nor will I ever love you. You're a coniving deceitful person and I hate you.
K: You used to love me.
J: First of all, the "you" I used to love doesn't exist anymore. Second of all you were just a .... replacement. Doc didn't love me , or so i thought, so i turned to you. to replace her. if i'd known she loved me i would have dropped you in a heartbeat.
K: John, if you just have one drink with me I'll leave.
J: One drink, and you'll go away?
K: Mmmhmmm.
J: Fine.
(she hands him the glass with the drugs in it.)
(her cell phone rings)
K: Hold on John. (turns around) Hello? Not now. Yes, but I can't talk. Of course. Thank you. Bye. (turns again)
K: Where were we.
J: Right about here. (he hands her the glass)
K: A toast. To us.
J: well...i am not gonna drink to that but i am gonna drink some. (John takes a few sips as Kristen drinks the entire glass. He watches as she becomes unaware of her surroundings.)
J: I knew it! I knew she'd pull something like this. Sure am glad I switched those glasses!
(He drags her into her room and leaves her alone. When he returns to their room Marlena is waiting. [it's night time now] She is already in bed. She just smiles at him.)
J: Seeing you smile makes all this crap Kristen's pulled worth it. I'm just so glad you're happy. And I'm glad Roman's going to be alright.
M: Well, we don't know that. He could be unresponsive. We just have to wait and see. We should probably see some results tomorrow morning.
J: I still can't believe he's alive. Until just a little while ago I still had doubts he was Roman.
M: That's understandable, especially for you, since you've been "Roman" before.
J: I could kill Stefano for what he did to this family.
M: I know, so could I. But if he hadn't, we never would have met.
J: I think we would. I may not know much about the way God works, but I know that a love as strong as this one was meant to be, and somehow, we would have found our way to one another.
(Marlena just smiles, she starts to cry.)
M: I'm sorry, I've just been a little emotional lately. You know, I'm still really tired. It's been a very long day.
J: Yes it has.
(They actually go to SLEEP for once.)
Austin goes to see Kate
K: Baby, tell Carrie about the annullment papers.
A: I'm gonna forget about the whole thing. Carrie loves Mike.
K: I've been trying to tell you Austin, she's just pretending to love Mike for Roman's sake, so he can die in peace.
A: She doesn't have to pretend on a plane with Mike when no one else is there does she?
K: What are you talking about?
A: I went to bring Carrie some flowers to welcome her home from L.A. and when I got to the plane she was making out with Mike.
K: Oh, Austin. She loves you. Tell her now. She'll dump Mike.
A: No. I'm going to concentrate on Will and Sami now. They need me.
K: Austin no! You can't!
A: Why not? Sami is very kind now. She's one of the nicest people I've met.
K: NO!! SHE'S NOT!! SHE'S STILL A DECEPTIVE BITİH LIKE ALWAYS AUSTIN!!!!
