AUSTIN AND KATE
(still talking at the kiriakis mansion)

austin: what are you talking about mom?

kate: baby, please, just tell carrie about the annullment.

austin: no. i've made up my mind. sami and i are going to be a family with will. it just has to be this way. maybe one day i'll learn to love her.

kate: austin, sami isn't what she seems. she has her memory back, i'm sure of it.

austin: how do you know that? do you have proof?

kate: no, but--

austin: mom, i'm going home to sami and will. i'm going to ask sami to remarry me. if i don't do it for her sake, i'm doing it for will. and for carrie.

kate: for carrie? what could that do for carrie?

austin: i don't want her to feel....obligated...to me. she loves mike. i want her to be happy with him.

kate: austin please just--

austin: no mom. that's the end. would you just stop interfering for once?
(he walks out of kate's house and goes back to his apartment)

(by the way, just for a setting, it's still night, but it's very late)

austin and sami's

sami comes out of her room.

sami: austin, where have you been?

austin: i've been at my mom's. sami, i need to tell you something.

sami: what?

austin: our marraige....it was a lie. we only married to keep the police from taking will away from us in paris. so i had mickey get me an annullment.
(sami begings to cry)

sami: austin no!

austin: wait sami...

sami: no! just leave me alone!! why would you do this to me, especially now.

a: i feel really bad. but sami i'm not leaving you.

s: what?

a: i want us to be a family with will. and i'm not going anywhere.
(sami runs to him and kisses him.)

s: oh austin! thankyou so much! i was so scared you'd leave me.

a: i have to ask you something sami.

s: yes?
(austin gets down on one knee)

a: sami, i know our relationship isn't ideal. i know i certainly didn't plan on getting married to you voluntarily. but will needs both his parents...under one roof. and i intend to give him the stable home i never had. sami, will you marry me....again?
(sami is thrilled beyond belief.)

s: oh austin! yes!! of course i will!

Part 7

a new day in salem

Marlena and John are waiting in the living room for the specialist to arrive.

John: Doc, do you think Roman will come out of this alright?

Marlena: We can pray. That's something I've been doing a lot of lately.

J: Me too.

John and Marlena hug, and he kisses her on the forehead. Then the doorbell rings. Marlena answers it.

Marlena: Oh you must be Dr. Webber. Please follow me to Roman's room.

Doctor: Alright.

They all head up to Roman's room.

M: Roman, wake up. We brought in a doctor who thinks he can help you.

R: Marlena, I thought I made it clear I didn't want to burden you.

M: You're not a burden. And I can't let you die without a fight. We're going to let him examine you. I'll be back in a little while.

Marlena and John leave the room. They wait about 15 minutes and the doctor comes out.

D: I've examined Roman. For someone with his illness, he's in fine shape. I think he's going to come out of this just fine.

Marlena falls into John's arms and cries in relief.

M: When are you going to start the drug treatment?

D: In just a moment. By tomorrow morning, if he's going to be cured, we'll see quite a bit of change. He'll probably be strong enough to get out of bed tomorrow. That is if he responds to the drug, which I'm almost positive he will.

M: That's the best news I've heard in so long!

She and John embrace. Then they go to see Roman and tell him the news.

R: No, that's impossible. Nothing can cure me. Please Doc, don't get your hopes up.

M: Roman, this is possible. It's going to happen and you're going to come out of this.

R: Doc, thank....thank...

M: Roman, what's wrong?

R: Nothing, I...I....I can't seem to catch my breath....I...love...you.

M: Roman, lie still. Dr. Webber? Hurry!

D: Alright. Don't worry, he'll be fine.

He pulls a needle out of his bag and fills it with a drug he's brought with him. he then gives roman an injection.

D: There. Roman, you need sleep. I don't want anyone to disturb him for at least a few hours....understand?

M: Yes, of course. Are you going to monitor his reaction or should I?

D: Well, that's what I was hired for. So I'll do it. You go and have lunch, or do something right now to take your mind off of things.

M: Thankyou doctor.

Marlena and John leave and head to the front door.

M: John, let's go somewhere and have lunch.

J: Sounds fabulous. How about the Penthouse Grill?

M: Anywhere is fine. Let's go.

They head out the door.

C&M

Carrie and Mike are at Carrie's apartment when Sami comes over.

Carrie: Well hello Sami what can I do for you? (in a rather aggravated tone)

Sami: I have the best news. Well, part is bad, but most is good.

C: Spit it out Sami.

S: Well, Austin told me he'd gotten an anullment, but that he hadn't really thought about it before he did it, and he wants to marry me again. Isn't that great? We're going to be married at St. Luke's right away, so that Daddy can be part of it.

Carrie is shaken. She can't get over the fact that Austin actually chose to be with Sami.

C: Well, that's wonderful Sami. I'm busy now, Mike and I have things to discuss. So, why don't you and Austin just go plan your wedding?

S: What's wrong Carrie? Oh, I understand. Your upset because I interupted you and Mike having time alone together. I'll go now. Bye!

Carrie slams the door. She's furious by now.

Mike: Don't let her get to you Carrie.

C: Don't let her get to me?! How can I not? And I can't believe Austin. I guess, he really doesn't love me after all. Mike, I'm so glad you're here. With Marlena busy with Dad I just--

M: What?

C: Oh, my God! Dad! I forgot all about him! I need to go to John and Marlena's to see him. The new drug may be working by now!

M: Alright. I'll drive you.

Sami is in her apartment, alone except for Will.

Sami: (laughing) Okay, big sister. I'm finally going to marry Austin. And you know what? There's nothing you can do to stop this wedding...or nothing you know about anyway. There's only one thing that could keep me from marrying Austin, and lucky for me.....no one in Salem knows about it except me. Well Carrie...it looks like I've finally won!

Part 8

Carrie and Mike arrive at the DiMera mansion at the same time that John and Marlena get back from lunch at the Penthouse grill. They run into each other and Marlena and John explain what the doctor said about Roman. Carrie and Mike are both thrilled.

Carrie: Marlena that's wonderful!

Carrie gives Marlena a giant bear hug. Then she hugs John, then Mike.

John opens the door and lets everyone inside. They all go upstairs to see how Roman is. As they get to his door Dr. Webber comes out.

Dr. Webber: Hi! I've got good news. I've already started to see a bit of change in Roman's condition. Not enough to guarantee he's going to be cured, but enough that I think you'll be pleased when you see him.

Marlena: How is that possible? For a drug to cure a disease in a matter of days?

Dr.: It doesn't cure it in just one day, but it provides sufficient relief to the patient and allows us to tell whether or not with long term use of the drug it will be able to cure the illness.

Marlena: Oh, Dr. Webber, thankyou so much for everything you've done!

Dr.: We still have to wait until tomorrow morning. You can see him now, but no more than 30 minutes. Then I need him to rest. This drug does have effects on the body that only rest can prevent.

John, Marlena, Carrie, and Mike walk into Roman's room. He still looks the same. Marlena walks over to his side, and puts her hand on his.

Marlena: Roman, please wake up.

Roman's eyes open, he smiles upon seeing Marlena. He's very happy to hear the news when she tells him he's responding to the treatment.

Roman: Doc, that's great. But, I don't want you to get your hopes up in case this doesn't work.

Marlena: It will work Roman, I know it will.

Roman: You know the best thing about it would be that if I recover, I'll get to spend more time with you. I want to take you out, do things with you I never did. Doc, I'm so sorry, for not being more understanding with Belle. I should have understood.

Marlena: More understanding? Roman you did what anyone in your position would have done. For God's sake Roman, you were married to me and I was pregnant with John's baby. That would be enough to hurt anyone. I don't blame you for leaving. I would have done the same thing.

Roman: Doc, let's put that behind us now. All that matters is that I'm in love with you, and I hope you still love me.

Marlena: Well, you know Roman, I will always love you, but--

Roman: You're not in love with me, right?

Marlena: Yeah.

Roman: That's okay. I'll just have to work on that.

Marlena: Roman, we're not supposed to stay long, why don't you talk to Carrie.

Roman: Doc, don't go.

Marlena: I have things to do. I'll come back in a little while.

Roman: Goodbye.

Marlena walks out of the room and shuts the door quietly. She sinks down onto the floor and starts crying because she doesn't want to have to break Roman's heart. She feels terrible, for all the pain she's already caused him, and now she'll have to hurt him again.

John walks out the door. He walks up to her, gives her a big hug, and tries to reassure her.

Marlena: John, I don't want to hurt him. I don't. And, I just don't know how to tell him.

John: I think that keeping it from him would hurt him more than telling him, because he will find out eventually.

Marlena: Yes, I know. I just don't know what to do. I'm sorry John.

John: Sorry? For what? Kristen doing things to us that you couldn't have changed?

Marlena: Yes. This whole situation. I guess I do need to tell Roman the truth. About everything. Because the longer I waited with you, the worse the situation became.

She pulls a tissue out of her purse and dries her eyes. John again gives her a hug and then a kiss. She smiles, but can't help crying some more when she again thinks of breaking Roman's heart.

Marlena: I'm sorry. Lately I've been so emotional. I don't know why. I guess just all the stress from Kristen and everything.

John: I'm sure that's it. Why don't you wait until tomorrow morning after Dr. Webber gives us a definite answer about Roman before you tell him.

Marlena: I think that's a good idea. You know, I should call Sami. She has no idea about any of this.

She pulls her cell phone out of her purse and dials Sami's number. It rings several times before she answers.

Sami: Hello?

Marlena: Sami, it's Mom. I have news about Daddy.

Sami: What kind of news?

Marlena: The doctor thinks he can cure him. We're already using an experimental drug. The doctor says he's starting to see results already.

Sami is thrilled, and can't believe it.

Sami: Oh, mom! That's even better than the news I have for you.

Marlena: What news is that?

Sami: You'll see. Austin and I will come over as soon as he gets home. Bye.

Marlena: Bye.

She places the cell phone down, and they all wait for Sami and Austin to arrive.

They ring the bell, the maid lets them in, and they head upstairs where everyone is waiting. They walk into Roman's room and say hello. Sami runs to her father's side.

Sami: Oh, Daddy, I'm so glad you're going to be okay!! Now, you can be a part of this.

Roman: Of what peanut?

Sami: Well, Austin and I are getting married again.

Roman: Again?

Sami: Well, before the accident, he said I did some pretty horrible things. He had gotten Mickey to work on getting an anullment. But then when the anullment came through, he said he realized that he wanted to be married to me after all. So, we want you to come to the wedding.

Roman: I'd be delighted peanut.

Everyone in the room is shocked. No one can believe Austin would be in love with Sami after all she'd done.

Marlena: I'm so happy for you Sami.

She went over to hug Sami, but over Sami's shoulder she exchanged looks with Carrie.

Marlena: Well, Sami, it's getting late, you and Austin should probably go home and get some rest. I think everyone should. I know I'm exhausted.

Carrie looks down at her watch and makes a funny face.

Carrie: Marlena, it's only 9:00.

Marlena: I know, I'm not sure why I'm so tired. I think I've just been under too much stress lately. I think I just need to get some rest tonight and I'll be fine.

John: Doc, if you're not feeling well, I want you to tell us. You need to be examined.

Marlena: I'm fine John. Really. It's been a long day, and I need sleep. Goodnight everyone.

Marlena goes into her room and shuts the door. She pulls a nightgown out of her drawer and thinks to herself: I have to go to the doctor tomorrow. But I don't want to mention it to anyone. They'll all worry. And I'm sure it's nothing.

John comes in, gives her a kiss goodnight, and turns the light out. He leaves to go talk to Carrie and Mike.

Part 9

Another new day...

Marlena wakes up as John walks into their room. He's carrying a tray in with breakfast for her.

Marlena: Oh, John! This is wonderful, thankyou!

John: I thought you'd like it. How are you feeling today?

Marlena: Actually, not well. I'm a little sick. Excuse me a minute.

Marlena gets up and goes to the bathroom. We hear a cough and then a flush, and then she comes back out.

John: Doc, are you alright?

Marlena: Yes, I'm fine, I just have a little bug or something.

John: Well, you need to go to a doctor.

Marlena: I'm fine John. But if it will make you feel better I'll go now.

John: I'll drive you.

Marlena: No, please, John. Let me go myself. I'll be fine. You stay here and call me when Roman wakes up.

John: Alright. I'm so sorry you're sick.

Marlena: I'm fine. I promise. See you in a little while.

She grabs some clothes out of her closet, and walks into the bathroom. She comes out in a lavender dress (looking quite cute) and leaves.

Meanwhile, Carrie is in her apartment, still asleep. She's sleeping later than usual, and she hears a knock at the door. She puts on her robe and opens the door. It's Mike.

Mike: Good morning. I'm sorry I woke you up, you're just usually awake by now.

Carrie: I had a hard time sleeping. But I'm glad you're here.

Mike: I brought you something.

He hands her a single red rose. She smiles, and looks up at him happily. She can't believe she has someone this kind and sweet in her life. Why didn't Austin ever do anything thoughtful like this? She asks him in, and then she goes to get dressed. When she comes out, she's wearing her favorite flowered dress.

Mike: Wow! You look incredible, of course you always do.

Carrie: Why thankyou Mike.

Mike: How would you like to go to a late breakfast at the Brady Pub?

Carrie: I'd love to. Let's go.

She takes his arm and as they walk down the hall of the apartment complex, Austin walks by.

Austin: Hi Carrie....Mike (he says Mike's name in an annoyed tone).

Carrie: Austin, I don't believe you. Marrying Sami?

Austin: Well, it's not like I--

Carrie: Save it Austin. I don't even want to hear it. Good bye!

She and Mike leave. As they walk away, Austin watches Carrie smile at Mike, giving him the kind of look she used to give to Austin. He can't believe he's lost her.

Austin: But it's true, I did lose her. I have to face it, and move on with Sami.

He walks into the apartment and finds Sami sitting on the couch with a ton of papers next to her.

Austin: What is all this?

Sami: I'm looking at our options for the wedding. Do you think we should have the reception at the Penthouse Grill or at Kristen's?

Austin: I think it would be better for your Dad if we had it at Kristen's house.

Sami: I guess you're right. Would you like to write our own vows?

Austin: I think I'd like to go with the traditional ceremony. Do you mind?

Sami: Austin, of course I don't mind. All I want is to marry you.

Sami gets up, puts her arms around him, and actually kisses him! Austin is surprised to find that he likes it. He kisses her back. Then he pulls away.

Austin: Sami, we have plans to make don't we?

Sami: You're right Austin. Let's get to work.

Meanwhile...

Carrie and Mike are at the Brady Pub. They've just finished their brunch and decide to head to Kristen's. They get into Mike's car and drive over. When they arrive they walk on in and upstairs to Roman's door, where John is standing.

Carrie: Hi John. How's Roman?

John: I don't know. The doctor doesn't want us to come in now because he thinks Roman needs more rest. Why don't we wait in the living room?

Mike: Alright.

They walk down to the living room. Just as they sit down, the doorbell rings. It's Caroline, Shawn, Mickey, and Maggie.

John: Come on in. Seems like a party here. Everyone's here except Doc.

Caroline: Where is Marlena?

John: She was feeling sick this morning so she went to the doctor.

Maggie: Well, we all hope she's alright. We heard Roman could be recovering today, and we wanted to be here.

John: I'm glad you could come. Please, sit down. I'm going to call Sami and Austin and tell them to come. I'm sure they'll want to be here too.

Within a little while, Abe and Lexi have shown up as well as Kate, Laura, Sami, Austin, and Jennifer and Jack. After they talk a while, the doctor comes down.

Dr. Webber: Roman is going to be fine. He's awake, and I must say, he's in great shape. He's recovering even more quickly than I thought. And there don't appear to be any side effects. He's actually sitting in a chair now. You can go in and see him.

Everyone heads upstairs to see Roman--including Kristen, who's been loitering in the front hall. Up in his room, they are astonished to see him dressed and walking around. He seems to be feeling fine.

John: Roman, this is wonderful! We're all thrilled that you're alright.

Roman: Where's Doc? She should be here. I want to tell her how much I love her, and ask her to take me back.

John gets a little uncomfortable with this situation, but decides not to say anything.

John: Relax, she just went to the doctor. She'll be back soon.

R: Is she sick?

J: Just a little bug. She has some things I know she wants to tell you when she gets here.

R: About what?

J: Just...some things she'd like to discuss with you that she didn't want to tell you while you were ill.

Dr. Webber: I'm sorry to interupt, but Roman, I think you should lie down now. I don't want you to overdo it.

R: I'm fine. But, I'll do what you say. I want to make sure I make a full recovery, so that I can concentrate on my life with Doc.

He lies down, and everyone makes a big fuss over him. Carrie says she'll go down and get him some water. As she gets halfway down the stairs, Marlena walks in the door. She looks shaken.

Carrie: Marlena what's wrong?

Marlena: Nothing...nothing at all.

C: Well, I have some great news: Dad's fine. He's awake and everyone's in there now.

M: OH! That's wonderful! I have to see him!

She runs up the staircase, and as she gets to where Carrie is standing she stops. She clutches her stomach and cries out in pain.

C: Marlena! Oh my God! MIKE! COME HERE!

M: No, don't call Mike , I'm fine. Really.

C: No, you aren't. Tell me what's wrong. Healthy people don't have cramps like that.

M: I'll tell you as soon as I speak to Roman. It's very important.

C: Alright, but as SOON as you talk to Dad, you have to tell us what the problem is.

M: Well, I wouldn't exactly call it a problem, just a slight inconvenience. It's not serious.

C: That looked pretty serious to me. But, let's go see Roman.

Carrie and Marlena head up the stairs. Carrie holds her hand, and tells her that she loves her and if anything serious is wrong tell her now. Again, Marlena says it's nothing. She'll tell her later. Right now, she has to tell Roman the truth. When they get to Roman's door, John is walking out. Carrie remembers Roman's water, and goes to get it so J&M can be alone.

John: Well, Doc, what's the word?

Marlena: Well...there's um...something I have to tell you, and I may as well tell you now. I just..don't know how to say it.

John: Spit it out.

Marlena: I...I...um, I--

Mike opens the door.

Mike: Marlena, come on in. I didn't know you were back. Roman's anxious to talk to you.

Marlena puts on a happy face for Roman's sake. She steps inside and sees him sitting up, dressed, and looking so healthy. She rushes over to his side. She stops next to his bed, and gets another cramp. She tries to hide it for Roman's sake. He senses her pain and asks what's wrong?

Marlena: I'm fine. I'm just so glad you're alright. I thank God from the bottom of my heart for you being alive today. We're all so glad to have you back.

Roman: I'm fine Doc, but how are you? Are you sure you're alright?

M: I'm fine. I just, I don't know how to begin to tell you what I have to tell you. There are things you don't know, things that are very important. I didn't tell you before because I didn't want to upset you while you were ill.

R: You didn't need to tiptoe around me Doc. Why don't you start at the beginning?

M: Well, alright. Oh, my....I'm...so dizzy....I think I just need to sit down for a minute.

She sits down in a chair by Roman's bed. John goes to her side with a concerned look on his face.

John: That's it Doc, right now, I want you to tell me what's wrong with you. No buts...this is important.

M: John, not now. Alright? I'm fine now.

J: No, it's not alright. We all love you and want to know the truth. Tell us the truth Doc. What is wrong?

Marlena doesn't quite know how to break her news to the family. She gets up and walks over to the window. She can't face them. She looks out at the garden below where she was just days ago crying because Roman would die. Now, she was crying because he was going to live, and she didn't want to hurt him. And now she had to break more news to the family, that would be devastating for Roman. Backed into a corner, she knew no one would let her get two words in without her telling them first. But it would hurt Roman so much. How could she tell him?

Just then, Roman said, "Go on, tell us Doc."

She burst into tears, turned around and faced everyone. The thought of what may happen when she told them the news was just to painful even for her. Still, she knew she had to do it. He'd find out eventually anyway.

Marlena: I give up! I'm pregnant alright! So just leave me alone!
