Part 1
This story takes place after August 1st’s episode of Days
Carrie and Mike go to LA to attend the conference in hopes of finding a cure for Roman. When they get to the hotel, they find that there is only one room.
C&M in LA
Mike: Are you sure that there are no other rooms available?
Front desk clerk: I’m sorry, but we’re booked solid for the conference this weekend.
Carrie: Mike you can stay in my suite, she said that there is a pull out bed in the couch.
Mike: Are you sure about this?
Carrie: Come on Mike, we’re friends, it’ll be fun!
Mike: Ok, if you insist!
Austin’s Apt. (Sami has just found the annulment papers).
Sami: (in tears) Austin, is our marriage really disolved?
Austin: You found the annulment papers. I’m sorry Sami, I never wanted you to find out this way. Yes, our marriage has been annuled.
Sami: Why Austin? What did I do to you? You said you loved me, why are you deserting me now?
Austin tries to put his hand on her shoulder for support.
Sami: No, don’t touch me.
Austin: Sami, it’s time you know the truth, the whole truth about what’s going on. I didn’t want you to find the papers now, especially that your father is dying.
Sami: (crying) My father, I can’t lose him and you Austin, why? Why are you doing this?
Austin sighs.

In suite
Carrie: See Mike this room is huge. We’ll have plenty of space.
Mike: Yeah you’re right. Listen, I’m starved and I bet your are too. I heard about this nice restaurant down the street from here. Are you up to it?
Carrie: Of course. That sounds great. Just let me get changed and I’ll be ready.
Phone rings.
Mike: Hello?
Marlena: Mike hi it’s me. I just wanted to make sure that you and Carrie arrived safely.
Mike: We did, thanks Marlena. How’s Roman?
Marlena: He’s the same, I am praying that you can find a cure at the conference.
Mike: I will do everything I can to try to save Roman.
Marlena: Thanks Mike, I know you will. Tell Carrie I said hi.
Mike: I will.
Marlena: Bye
Mike: Bye
Carrie walks out in an evening gown. Mike’s breath is taken away.
Mike: You look beautiful.
Carrie: thanks Mike. Who was that on the phone?
Mike: Marlena, she’s was just checking in, Roman’s condition is the same.
Carrie: I hope we can find something at this conference tomorrow.
Mike: Me too. You ready?
Carrie: Yeah, let’s go.
Austin’s Apt.
Sami: Austin, you said you loved me, is there another woman?
Austin: Sami, sit down. (They sit at the couch) You need to know the whole truth. Yes, there is another woman.
Sami: You’ve been chaeting on me? How? When/ We spent so much time together, how did you have time for this woman?
Austin: Sami, let me explain. This woman and I fell in love before you even entered the picture.
Sami: Then why didn’t you marry her?
Austin: Sami, you showed up at the wedding pregnant with Will.
Sami: If you were in love with her, then why did you sleep with me?
Austin: Sami, you tricked me into bed with you. You drugged me.
Sami: No! No! I couldn’t, no Austin it can’t be true! (crying hysterically)
Austin: Sami, I’m sorry, but it is true. You were different before the amnesia. You pulled schemes to keep me and the woman I love apart.
Sami: No! Austin, no I never could do that? I’m not evil like Kristen! No!
Austin: I’m so sorry Sami.
Sami: Austin, then why did you and I marry?
Austin: It’s hard to explain. We did it for Will. He was kidnapped and taken to Paris. The French authorities wouldn’t give us Will unless we married. Our marriage was a lie.
Sami: I can’t take this, it can’t be true.
Austin: Sami…
Sami: leave me alone! I need to be with my son! (She runs into Will’s room and slams the door.
Austin: I need to find Eric and Carrie.
C&M in LA
At the restaurant, eating dinner.
Carrie: Mike this was a great idea. I needed to get out and have some fun.
Mike: Hey, what are friends for?
Carrie: You’re such a good friend.
(Carrie and Austin’s doo-wap-sho-bop song comes on)
Mike: It’s your and Austin’s song, isn’t it?
Carrie: yeah (gets upset)
Mike takes her hand.
Mike: Would you like to dance?
Carrie: (smiles) I’d love to.
Carrie’s Apt. Eric is on phone.
Eric: I know, I know. But I am needed here. My father is dying, and my sisters need me. (Pause) I don’t know how long, as long as I am needed. (Pause) I miss you too, but I have been away from home for so long and I need to be with my family.
Knock on door.
Eric: I’ve got to go, someone is at the door. I will, bye.
Eric opens the door.
Eric: Austin, hi. What’s up?
Austin: Is Carrie here?
Eric: She didn’t tell you? Carrie is in LA to attend a conference about finding a cure for Roman.
Austin: Oh
Eric: What’s wrong?
Austin: Sami knows the truth.
Eric: What? How? What happened?
Austin: She found the annulment papers, I had no choice but to tell her the truth.
Eric: Annulment papers? I thought you had to wait for Sami to get her memory back.
Austin: Mickey pleaded my case to a judge and he granted the annulment. No time to explain, you need to help me with Sami. She’s very upset.
Eric: Ok, let’s go over.
Austin’s Apt.
Sami with Will
Sami: Oh Will, what are we going to do? We can’t lose your daddy. I have to figure out something. I am not going to let Carrie win.

Still slow dancing
Carrie: Mike thank you so much, you are sucha great friend.
Mike: Anytime Carrie.
Carrie:I know you have lots of other things in your life besides tagging along with me. Who is this mystery woman you were talking about?
Mike: (laughing nervously)She’s not a mystery woman, more like a fantasy woman.
Carrie: A fantasy woman? Mike I know you better than that, you’re hiding something.
Mike turns away.
Mike: Carrie, I’m not seeing anybody. It’s just a fantasy, it will never happen.
Carrie: ( confused look) Mike, look at me. Tell me the truth.
Mike looks deeply into her eyes.
Mike: I…I can’t. There’snothing to tell. Just drop it ok?
Carrie: Alright. (in head) That look he gave me, why did it get to me? For a moment I thought…)
Mike: You ready to go back to the hotel?
Carrie: Yeah, let’s go.
Mike: Ok. I’ll go pay the bill and we’re out of here.
Mike goes out of sight over to pay the bill.
Mike: (to himself) You almost let it out Mike, she’s better off not knowing, she’s in love with Austin.
Carrie (at table gathering purse): Why can’t I shake this feeling? ( we see a flash of pat Carrie/Mike scenes.) She shakes it off.
Carrie: (not so sure of herself) I love Austin, and he and I will be married. ( She looks at Mike) Then why can’t I stop thinking about Mike?
Austin’s Apt.
Austin and Eric walk in.
Eric: Sami?
Sami walks out with Will.
Sami: Eric, oh Eric. Please tell me I wasn’t so evil. Please.
Eric: I’m sorry Sami.
Austin takes Will from Sami.
Sami: (crys) Oh Eric, no I coundn’t, I…
Eric hugs Sami.
Eric: Sami it’s ok, it’ll all be ok.
Austin: Eric, do you think you could stay with Sami tonight?
Eric: (nods) yeah
Sami: Austin where are you going?
Austin: I need to talk to my mom. I’ll leave Will with you.
Austin hands Will to Sami and leaves.
Sami: Eric, he’s really leaving me, just like dad.
Eric: No, dad will be alright. Carrie will find a cure at the conference. We have to believe that.

The suite
Carrie is dreaming.
It is her wedding day. You can see everyone there smiling at her. She begins walking down the ailsle. You see the groom, but you can not see his face. When Carrie gets up closer, you see that it is Mike, not Austin.
Carrie wakes up.
Carrie: Why did I dream about marrying Mike?

C&M in LA
It is the next morning. Carrie and Mike are getting ready for the conference.
Carrie: Mike I really hope we can find a cure for my dad.
Mike: Carrie, don’t worry, stay positive.
Carrie: I am Mike. What time do we need to be there?
Mike: We have about an hour before we need to go, want to get some breakfast?
Carrie: Yeah, there’s a restaurant downstairs in the lobby, why don’t we go there?
Mike: Great. Let’s go eat.
Austin’s Apt.
Sami’s room.
Sami dreams about her and Austin’s Wedding. She wakes up.
Sami: My marriage to Austin is really over. I have to do something. I will not lose Austin.
Knock on door.
Eric: I’ll get it Sami.
Eric opens the door. It’s Lucas in another of his famous suits.
Lucas: Hi, Is Sami home?
Eric: (giving Lucas a LOOK) Yeah, but she’s still sleeping.
Sami walks up behind Eric.
Sami: No I’m not. Hi Lucas come on in.
Lucas: Sami! You look awful, what happened? Where’s Austin.
Sami: (breaking down in tears) Oh Lucas, Austin left me! He annulled our marriage, he’s in love with someone else.
Lucas: Oh Sami, (he hugs her) I’m sorry.
Eric: I’ll leave you two alone. I’m going next door to check on Austin.
Eric leaves.
Lucas: Sami, I told you this would happen. Carrie and Austin are probably going to be married tomorrow.
Sami: Not if I can help it. Besides, Carrie is in LA. She won’t be back for awhile. She said the conference was next week.
Lucas: The conference is today Sami, they moved it up. I overheard Marlena talking to John. She should be back by tomorrow.
Sami: Then we have to act fast.
Lucas: You have a plan? What’s your plan?
Sami: You’ll see Lucas.
Salem Airport
We see a young woman with brownish hair get off the plane.
Woman: Well here I am, Salem. It’s been too long since I left Colorado.

At the restaurant
Mike starts talking about the conference. Carrie is kind of half listening, half daydreaming.
Carrie: (in head) Why do I keep thinking about him? He’s so cute when he gets all serious. What I am doing? I love Austin.
Mike: Carrie? Carrie? Are you listening?
Carrie: What? Oh, I’m sorry Mike.
Mike: We’re you thinking about Austin?
Carrie: Austin? No I uh, sorry I guess I kind of spaced out there a bit.
Mike: Are you sure?
Carrie: Yes, now let’s finish eating so we can get to the conference on time.
Carrie’s Apt.
Eric knocks on door.
Eric: Austin?
Austin opens the door.
Austin: Eric, hi. How’s Sami doing.
Eric: Not good. I think she will be all right though. It’s just such a big blow to her.
Austin: Yeah, I know. I didn’t want her to find out like this.
Eric: I know you didn’t.
Austin: Listen, do you know the # to Carrie’s hotel? I’d like to let her know what’s going on.
Eric: Sorry Austin, I don’t. why don’t you ask Marlena? I’m sure she has the number so she can find out about the conference.
Austin: Thanks I will.
Out in the hall
The woman from the airport is in from of Austin’s Apt. She sighs then knocks on the door. Sami opens the door.
Sami: (shocked) Jaime!
Jaime: Hi Sami.
Lucas: Jaime? Hi, how are you?
Sami: Well come on in.
Jaime: Thanks, I’m all right Lucas. I just finished nursing school in Colorado.
Sami: That’s great Jaime.
Jaime: Sami, I thought you’d be furious with me about what happened last year.
Lucas: Uh Jaime, Sami has amnesia. She can’t remember the past four years of her life. She only remembers you from pictures and what people have told her.
Sami: Wait, Jaime what did I do to you? I have some memories of our times together, but only bits and pieces.
Jaime: Nevermind Sami, it’s just good to see you. How did she get amnesia?
Lucas: Austin hit her with his car.
Jaime: What?
Sami: It was an accident, he didn’t mean to hurt me. (she then breaks down into tears).
Jaime: What? What’s wrong? Lucas what happened?

Carrie and Mike at the conference.
Mike explains Roman’s condition. Carrie is trying to pay attention but can’t. She keeps thinking about Mike.
Carrie: (in head) I can’t stop thinking about him. I’m so confused.
Mike: So we are hoping that we can find a cure for Roman so he can be with his family. Everyone has been through so much pain.
Doctor 1: Well Mike I think we may have something that will work. But we will need to get authorization to use it. We could get it to you by tomorrow.
Mike: That’s great! You really think this will work? Does it have any side effects?
Doctor2: It should work, it’s a new drug and it is able to cure infections like these. But as for side effects, it will cure him of his infection, but he could possibly get cancer.
Carrie: Cancer? That’s curable isn’t it?
Doctor1: Yes, most cancers are curable, it’s up to your father if he wants to take the risk of possibly getting cancer and having to deal with the therapy.
Carrie: I think we should go ahead and try it, Mike I can call Marlena.
Mike: That would be good, (to doctors) we’ll go ahead and try it.
Doctor1: OK Mike, we can have it delivered to your hotel tomorrow morning.
Mike: Thanks.
Carrie’s Apt. Austin is on phone
Austin: She’s not there?
Woman at front desk: She and a man left awhile ago for that conference.
Austin: Man? Do you know his name?
Eric eyes Austin.
Woman: I believe it was Mike something, I have it right here listed under the room if you want it.
Austin: No, that’s all right. He hangs up.
Eric: Austin what was that all about?
Austin: Carrie is in LA, with Mike.
Austin’s Apt.
Jaime: Sami what is it?
Lucas: Jaime come with me. (They go out of earshot). Will got kidnapped and Austin and Sami had to marry to get Will out of Paris, where the lady took him. After Austin hit Sami with his car, and she almost died, Austin had to pretend to be in love with Sami and be her loving husband in hopes that she would get well and regain her memory.
Jaime: Why did he need her to regain her memory?
Lucas: Because he couldn’t annul his marriage to Sami while she has amnesia. But Mickey found a case similar to Austin’s, and the judge in that trial granted the annulment. Mickey pleaded Austin’s case and he granted the annulment. Sami found the annulment papers and is heartbroken. Austin had to tell her the truth.
Jaime: Wow. So Sami has no memory of all the things she’s done?
Lucas: No, and she was very hurt to hear what she had done from Austin.
Jaime(looks at watch): Well I was hoping to visit with some other people like Sean and Caroline, I better get going.
Sami: Jaime, where are you staying?
Jaime: Well I have reservations at the Salem Inn…
Sami: Don’t be silly, stay with me.
Jaime: But isn’t this Austin’s apartment?
Sami: (turns away) yeah, but he’s staying at Carrie’s with Eric. He told me I could stay here. I would like to have you around, I could use a friend.
Jaime: Well, all right. But I’ll have to get my stuff my the hotel.
Sami: OK, that’s fine.
Jaime: I’ll be back in a little bit. Jaime walks out the door and searches for her keys in her purse. She looks up and walks straight into Eric.
Jaime: Eric!
Eric: Marie, it’s you! How did you get here? He hugs her.

Back at hotel.
Carrie: I’m so glad those doctors could help us. I just hope dad doesn’t get cancer.
Mike: Stay positive, there’s only a slight risk. You said Marlena wanted to do whatever it takes to keep your father alive.
Carrie: I know.
Mike: Listen, why don’t we order room service for dinner? I’ll set up everything, you go take a hot bath and relax.
Carrie: That sounds good, thank you Mike. You are the best. She hugs him.

Outside Austin’s Apt.
Eric: How did you know I was in Salem?
Jaime/Marie: I didn’t know, what are you doing in Salem?
Eric: I’m Sami’s twin brother.
Jaime/Marie: Your Sami’s brother? All that time in Colorado, you never mentioned it.
Eric: Yeah well, I was kind of quiet about my past.
Sami opens the door.
Sami: Jaime you left your keys…Oh I see you met my brother Eric.
Eric: Wait a minute, why did she just call you Jaime?

Carrie is in the bathtub taking a bubble bath. She is thinking about past times with Mike. (Big flashback scenes).
Carrie: Could it be true? Was Sami seeing something that I was denying to myself because of Austin? Am I in love with Mike?
Mike out in room.
Knock on door. Mike opens it, it’s the room service.
Waiter: Where would you like me to set this?
Mike: Right over there’s fine.
The waiter sets up the food. He puts some candles on the table and lights them.
Waiter: Would you like some music?
Mike: (sighs) Yeah sure go ahead.
The waiter sets up a radio and puts it on a soft rock station.
Waiter: Have a good evening.
Mike: (gives waiter a tip) Thanks.
Outside Austin’s Apt.
Jaime: (she takes the keys from Sami). Thanks.
Sami: Eric what do you mean? Her names’ always been Jaime.
Eric: You lied to me.
Jaime: Look Eric I can explain.
Sami: I’ll leave you two alone.
Eric: OK, start explaining.
Jaime: All right. Jaime is my real name. When I went to Colorado, I went by my middle name because I wanted to start over, my life in Salem wasn’t exactly the best for me.
Eric: So you must be the Jaime that Sami wrote me about. I don’t blame you, my sister has done some things, horrible things. It’s hard for me to believe, but she’s different now.
Jaime: I know, that’s why I am glad to be back. Sami was the closest friend I ever had. It was so hard for me to watch her grow so manipulative. So you’re not mad at me?
Eric: No, no. I understand. He hugs her.
Carrie’s Apt. Austin is sitting by the phone.
Austin: I should call her, that’s it, I’m calling her.(He dials the number) Hello, Carrie Brady’s room please.
Woman: Hold on please. I have a room under C. Brady and M. Horton, would like me to transfer you to their room?
Austin: Uh no nevermind. He hangs up.
Austin: That’s it, I’ve lost Carrie to Mike.
Austin: I better go see how Will is.

Carrie walks out to soft music playing and a nice dinner set out for two.
Carrie: (smiles) Mike this looks wonderful.
Mike: Hey, anything for you.
They sit down. Carrie looks away.
Mike: What is it? You thinking about Austin?
Carrie: What? No, let’s not talk about Austin OK?
Mike: OK.
They begin to eat dinner.
Outside Austin’s Apt.
Jaime: Eric, I had no idea that I’d find you here. You left so suddenly, why didn’t you tell me?
Eric: I had planned to come for John and Marlena’s wedding, but Kristen showed up at the wedding with my father Roman.
Jaime: I thought you said that your father had died.
Eric: Everyone thought so. But he’s not, he’s alive. But he’s sick, very sick. Mom says that he may not have long to live. Carrie went to LA for a conference with doctors from all over the US to see if she can find a cure.
Jaime: Oh Eric, I’m so sorry.
Eric: It’s all right, now that you’re here, it make things a lot easier. Eric leans over and kisses her.
Austin walks right into them.
Austin: Uh, sorry Eric. Jaime? Is that you?
Jaime: Hi Austin.
Austin: What this all about?
Inside Austin’s Apt.
Lucas: Sami, why did you ask Jaime to stay with you? You didn’t forget what happened last time did you?
Sami: No Lucas, but I know her. She won’t see through my faking my amnesia. Besides, she was a good friend, it’s my fault for putting her in a position that I knew she couldn’t handle.
Lucas: Well all right. So let me in on your plan.
Sami: Lucas, Lucas. Trust me OK. Why don’t you try to call a truce between you and Austin, take him out for a beer or something.
Lucas: No, I’m not taking him anywhere.
Sami: Just do it Lucas, I need you to do this so that Austin doesn’t suspect you in trying to keep him and Carrie apart.
Lucas: All right, I’ll do it, I don’t like it but I’ll do it.
C&M in LA
Carrie: Mike if this antibiotic cures Roman, I was thinking that we could plan our Brady/Horton picnic.
Mike: Sure, I’m not sure how fast Roman will be back to his old self again though. It may take awhile. I’ll monitor his progress and when he feels up to it, we can set a date.
Carrie: That’s what I like about you, always thinking of others first. A new song comes on the radio.
Carrie: Oh, I love this song! Mike, would you care to dance?
Mike: Of course I would.
They embrace and begin dancing.
Carrie: Mike, you never did tell me who this fantasy or mystery woman is.
Mike sighs.
Carrie: Mike look at me, tell me.
Mike looks deeply into her eyes, and then leans over and kisses her ever so gently.
