Austin was is shock. He couldn't believe what Carrie had just said. "You're pregnant?"
Carrie could only nod her head yes. This was the last thing she had expected to hear from the doctor. She should have known. The last time she and Austin had been together they hadn't used any protection. She hadn't thought about that until now.
"I'm gonna be a daddy!" Austin picked Carrie up and spun her around. He realized what he was doing and set her down quickly. "I'm sorry. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I'm not going to break."
Austin put his hand on Carrie's stomach. His child...no, their child was growing in there. "I love you so much."
"I love you too." Carrie pulled Austin into her arms. Nothing would ever keep them apart again.
Sami stood up. Marlena immediately went to her side to help her. She walked over to Carrie. She knew everyone was shocked to see her walking but there was no reason for her to stay in that chair now. She had been working on walking so she could surprise Austin but there was no point anymore. She wasn't completely steady on her feet yet but that would come in time. She just stood there looking at Carrie. This had to be a mistake. "Is it true?"
"Yes. I'm pregnant", Carrie saw no reason to sugarcoat anything for Sami after everything she had done. She wasn't surprised to see the anger in Sami's face.
"You slut! You slept with my husband!"
"Sami!", Marlena tried to take Sami back to her chair but she pushed her away.
"You couldn't stand the fact that Austin was happy with me, could you? You just had to take him away from me again. Austin is mine, Carrie, and I will never let him go."
"Sami, I didn't take Austin away from you."
"Liar! You could have anybody you want but you have to have the only man I'll ever love!"
Austin had heard enough. "Sami, stop it. It's time that you accept the fact that I will never love you. No matter what you do, or how many scams you pull I will NEVER love you. Being married to you was hell and the only reason I went through all that was because I thought Will was my son. That was the worst thing you ever did to me. You let me believe he was my son and used him to keep me with you. I will never be able to forgive you for that."
"I did it because I love you! Why can't you see that? Why can't you see that we belong together?"
"You have a warped idea of what love is Sami. You treat Austin like he's some kind of possession or prize in a contest. You don't love Austin. You're obsessed with him."
"Shut up Carrie!"
"No. I put my life on hold for you because I thought it would help you recover from the accident and you took advantage of it. I'm not doing it anymore. I am not going to let you play games with my life. Austin and I love each other and we're getting married as soon as the annulment is granted."
"Don't plan on it. I'm going to fight the annulment."
Austin pulled Carrie away. "Sami, you don't have anything to fight with. There's no reason for us to stay married. I don't love you and Will isn't my son. I don't think you're going to get much sympathy from the judge." He took Carrie and started to walk away.
"Austin, please! You have to give me a chance! Don't let her come between us!" She was hopeful when Austin turned around.
"Sami, Carrie isn't coming between us. There is no us. You came between me and Carrie. I despise you."
"No! Austin..."
Marlena took Sami's arm. "You can go see Will now Sami."
Sami looked at Marlena. "Mom, I have to make him understand. I need him."
"Sami, he's too angry to talk to you right now. He needs time to get over everything that's happened."
"But if I wait I'll lose him!"
"You've already lost him", Marlena pulled Sami to her. "You can't make someone love you. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have asked Austin to pretend you were happily married."
"It was your idea? But I thought..." Sami couldn't finish.
"What? Honey, what is it?"
"He only stayed with me because you asked him to?"
"Well, it's more complicated than that. Why don't you go see your son. Then I'll take you home and explain everything." Marlena sighed as Sami left. She prayed she would be able to help her daughter.
Austin and Carrie were talking to Mike and Lucas when Sami got to the recovery room. She went in to see her son without speaking to any of them. She broke down when she saw Will. He looks so helpless, she thought. "You're all I have left Will. Thank God you're alright."
Carrie looked at Sami through the window. "I really hope Marlena can help her."
Austin put his arms around her. "Me too. But we have a wedding to plan."
"Yes, we do. And I know exactly how I want to be married."
Mike and Lucas came up to them. Lucas noticed Mike staring at Carrie. It doesn't look like Mike was pretending, he thought. He patted his brother on the back. They were in the same boat where Carrie was concerned. "What are you two up to?"
Carrie couldn't contain her excitement. "We came to tell you both the news."
"What news?"
"I'm pregnant."
Lucas didn't know what to say. "Pregnant? How? Sami's done everything she could to keep you from being alone together. How is this possible?"
"It happened the night Austin tried to end it with me."
"Wow, looks like we both found out we're fathers tonight bro." Lucas wanted to be happier for Austin and Carrie but it was too soon. He knew he had lost Carrie forever now.
Mike tried to hide his shock. "I guess congratulations are in order." He gave Carrie a brief hug. "I'm really happy for you."
"Thank you Mike. You have been such a good friend. I don't think I would have made it through this without you."
"I'm glad I could help." Mike saw Laura and excused himself. He told her what had happened with Sami and Lucas.
"So, Carrie and Austin are back together?"
"Yes, just as they should be." Mike knew where Laura was headed with this.
"Mike why don't you tell Carrie how you feel? You are so much better for her than Austin."
"Mom, Carrie and I are just friends. She loves Austin. I'm happy for them."
"I want you to be happy and Carrie makes you happy. I just think..."
"I know what you think. But Austin is a good guy, even if his parents weren't. I think it's time you put the whole situation with Kate behind you."
"This has nothing to do with Kate. I just think you are the better man for Carrie."
"You're my mother. Of course you think that. But it doesn't matter anyway."
"Why not? You should just be honest with Carrie about how you feel and let her make the decision. I'm not saying you should be like Kristin or Sami, just be honest."
"Mom, we are just friends. Mickey is working on the annulment from Sami and as soon as they get it Austin and Carrie are getting married. That's the way it should be."
Laura wanted to keep trying to convince Mike but Carrie and Austin came up to them. "Hello Carrie."
"Hi Laura. Did Mike tell you?"
"Yes. He was just telling me what Sami has been up to."
"I'm so glad this whole mess is over. Now Austin and I can get married and be a family."
"Family?"
"Mike didn't tell you? I'm pregnant. Austin and I are going to have a baby." Carrie was so happy she didn't notice Laura's reaction.
"You're pregnant? How is that possible? You haven't been together for so long. You're not even showing." Laura was stunned but now she understood why Mike wanted to back off.
"It wasn't easy. Sami was always finding ways to interrupt us or keep us from being alone. But we managed to steal some time alone a couple of weeks ago. Actually, it's kind of funny. Austin was trying to break up with me that night."
"Break up with you?" Laura was still reeling from the news of Carrie's pregnancy.
"I had given up. Sami did a good job of faking the amnesia and I didn't think she would ever get her memory back. I tried to get Carrie to move on with her life. Lucky for me, she wouldn't listen."
"Yes. Lucky for you." But not for Mike, she thought. It was Kate all over again. Only this time her son has ruined my son's chance at happiness.
"Well, we've got to get going. I've got a wedding to plan!" Carrie wanted to get started right away. "We just wanted to make sure Will was alright before we left."
"He'll be fine. You two go on." Mike turned to Laura after they left. "Will you leave it alone now?"
"Yes, but I still think you should be honest about your feelings."
Lucas went in to see Will. Sami looked up when he came in. "What do you want?"
"I just came in to see my son." Lucas was still furious with her for keeping this from him but he didn't want to start a fight in front of Will.
"I'm sorry Lucas."
"Sami, I don't want to get into this now. Will needs his sleep."
"I know that. I was just trying to apologize."
"Believe me Sami. We're going to talk about this and you'll get your chance."
Nothing else was said. They just sat their looking at their son, glad he was alright. Mike came in and examined him. "How's he doing Mike?"
"He's doing fine. We're going to move him to a room now. I want to keep him here a few days. Just to give the stitches time to heal."
"Ok. Can I stay here with him?" Sami didn't want to leave him all alone in the hospital.
"I think I can arrange that. But I think you should take this opportunity to go home, change your clothes..."
"I don't want to leave him Mike."
"I understand that but it will take some time to move him into a room and get him settled. You could take advantage of that time and run home. Maybe you could bring back something of Will's to comfort him. A stuffed animal, favorite toy, something like that."
"Mike's right Sami. I'll take you home and help you get a few things together. We'll be back before you know it."
"Alright. He probably would be more comfortable with some things from home."
Austin hadn't said much during the ride home. They went to his apartment first and Carrie helped him pack his clothes. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I just can't believe she did this." He picked up one of Will's toys. "It's weird. I lost one child tonight only to gain another. I'm happy for us but sad about Will. I... I don't know. It's all so confusing."
"I know what you mean." Carrie was trying to fold Austin's clothes neatly but she saw that Austin was just throwing them in his suitcase. He looked up when she laughed.
"I don't want to waste any more time. I think I've got everything I need for tonight. I can get the rest tomorrow."
They went back to Carrie's apartment. Austin opened the door, threw his bags in and swept Carrie up in his arms. "Austin! What are you doing?"
"Sweeping you off your feet." He kissed her and carried her into the bedroom.
Lucas and Sami arrived just in time to see Austin carrying Carrie into her apartment. Sami thought she had cried all she could tonight but fresh tears rolled down her face. She went into the apartment. "So, Lucas, what do we do now?"
"I don't know about you but I plan on getting on with my life."
"You're giving up? After everything we've been through?"
"Sami, it's over. There's nothing left to do. Mickey has already started on the annulment and Carrie is pregnant. They're going to get married and this time nothing can stop it."
"Don't remind me about Carrie's pregnancy. How did that happen? We worked so hard to keep them apart."
"The night Austin told Carrie to get on with her life. I guess we left a little too soon. But we have other things to discuss Sami."
"Lucas, you know why I did it. There was a time that you would have done the same thing."
"You should have told me that Will is my son. You lied to me. I asked you and you lied."
"I didn't lie. I just found out about the possibility the other day."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Because all I knew was the blood types didn't look right. I didn't want to say anything unless I was sure."
"I don't believe you would have ever told me."
"Believe what you want, I've told you the truth. Now, are you going to help me get Austin back or not?"
"No Sami. I made my peace with Austin and Carrie. I'm not helping you anymore. Austin will never love you and Carrie will never love me. There's nothing we can do about it."
"I guess I'm on my own then. I'll figure something out."
"Just leave me out of it. The only thing I'm concerned about now is my son. Get your stuff so we can get back to the hospital."
Sami noticed that most of Austin's thing were gone. If only I had gotten here sooner, she thought, I would have had a chance to talk to Austin. She got Will's things ready and went back into the living room..
"You ready?"
"Yes." She could hear romantic music coming from Carrie's apartment. "Carrie will pay for this. I will find a way to get Austin back."
Lucas didn't say anything. He noticed Sami was carrying the envelope with the information on his mom. "What are you doing now?"
"I'm making good on my promise to Kate. She beat me by telling Austin but I'm sure the press will just love to have this information."
"For a while but it won't last long and she'll bounce back."
"Maybe. But she'll be too busy dealing with this to worry about what I'm up to.
Lucas just shook his head as they left to go back to the hospital.
Victor met Kate at the door. After she filled him in on Will's condition and what had happened at the hospital she fixed herself a drink. "I just can't believe the lengths that girl went to in order to keep Austin. The only good thing that happened tonight was that Austin and Lucas made peace with each other. They both got burned by Sami this time." She took a drink and looked at Victor. " You know she's probably going to try to have that information published."
"I expect as much. I've already come up with a way to handle that situation.," He handed Kate some papers. "If you don't want to go through with this we can come up with something else."
"No, it's perfect." Kate hugged Victor and kissed his cheek. "She'll never expect this. It's brilliant."
"Well then I guess we have some phone calls to make."
