1968 A NEW FERRY SERVICE FROM ROSSLARE TO FRANCE

In 1968 a new ferry service between Rosslare Harbour and France opened. A new Stern-Bow loading ramp had to be built for this new RO.RO service. This ramp would cater for cars and large freight lorries. The ramp was built by the contractors John Paul and Co. Dublin. (This ramp was removed in 1995 to make way for another bigger RO RO loading ramp, it was called ramp no 3). Two ships were used on this service, they were the Leopard and the Dragon.The route was operated by G.S.N Co.. LONDON and S.A.G.A, in PARIS, and IRISH SHIPPING LTD. DUBLIN. In 1968 there was one sailing a week from Rosslare Harbour to the French port of Le-Havre. Then 1970 and 1971 sailings was two a week. The Dragon and the Leopard were operated by Normandy Ferries.
