Concept: Ben Savage plays Cory Matthews, your average high school senior going through your average high school angst. The show tackles at least one "message" an episode: Dad is unfulfilled; brother Eric didn't get accepted to college; best friend Shawn lives in a trailer park.
Critique: Now entering its fifth season, Boy Meets World ushers Cory into his senior year, and promises to be as righteous as ever. This series was produced by the team behind My Two Dads--and it shows. It has that cough syrup quality that's devastatingly sweet and good for you at the same time. Both the writing and our young hero Savage (whose brother Fred has a new series on NBC called Working) are a tad too earnest for their own good--especially when following the sassy Sabrina. The show took a dip in ratings last season. But with Matthew Lawrence (younger brother to Blossom's Joey) reportedly joining the show and with a strong lead-in from Sabrina, Boy Meets World should keep those TGIF adolescents tuned in. What else are they going to watch, Meego?
