This is a short article from the April 1997 issue of Bop
Some boys want to be firemen or astronauts when they grow up. Will Friedle wanted to be an actor. Of course, this probably doesn't surprise you, considering this 20-year-old actor is a star of the ABC-TV series Boy Meets World and the upcoming film Rescue Me (which, by the way, also stars Party Of Five's Jennifer Love Hewitt). What is suprising, however, is that Will and another carrer in mind in case acting didn't work out. "If I wasn't going to be an actor," he tells BOP, "I was going to be an archaeologist."
An archaelolgist? You mean someone who digs around in the dirt for old bones and bits of pottery? That's right. However, Will points out, what archaeologists really do is study human lives and cultures from hundreds of years ago. they also answer puzzling historical questions, such as what fashionalbe Egyptions were wearing two thousand years ago.
As it turns out, Will's fascination with archaeology wasn't just a passing phase. "My whole life, archaeology has been my passion," he says. That's why when he graduated from high school, he couldn't wait to start studying archaeology-related subjects in college. "I did the school thing with archaeology," he says the first two years of college. I did anthropology for a while, I did classical mythoogy for a while and I'm slowly learning hieroglyphics (ancient Egyptian writing) and things like that."
Unfortunately, Will's excitement soon turned to disappointmant when he realized he'd taken all the archaeology-related classes hid junior college offered. So for now, Will's putting off further archaeology studies until he attends a university and focusing, instead, on his childhood dream: his acting career.
