Multiple Subjects (What I've missed, retirement, "Final Mission", and others) This message is directed to all the Rangerphiles here at the Acorn Cafe. I've been looking back through Kat's Cafe Archives (Tales from the Messageboards), and I've been getting caught up with some recent events here, and I've only got one thing to say... What party did I miss?!? Tad Stones, Deborah "Foxglove" Walley, and Dev Ross -all- visited the Acorn Cafe? And I missed it?!? Darn it!! At least "Gadget" hasn't shown up yet...but actually, I sent a letter to an address supplied long ago here to Tress MacNeille telling her about us, and I gave her the location of the RR Database, with easy instructions on how to get to the Cafe from there. Unfortunately, that over four months ago. I either haven't gotten through (it was an address to Warner Bros. Animation), or I got a reply, but my snoopy mother got to it before I could. Oh, well. I was re-reading the thread where Ms. Ross visited the Cafe. As for why I was turned on to the Rangers, one word sums it up for me--Gadget. To elaborate a little: As many of you said when Dev Ross visited, Gadget was a shining non-stereotype of female characters in cartoon series. She still is, after all these years. (A side thought here: Isn't it amazing that the only other character to ever come close--IMHO--to that level of non-stereotypical female behavior is Callie Briggs from the -action/adventure- cartoon "SWAT Kats", who was also voiced by Tress?) Gadget is intelligent, imaginative, creative, and even has Magical Female Powers [TM] without even knowing it--they've worked on many a male Rangerphile, I'm sure. ;) She captivated all of us with her marvelous inventions, her amazing ingenuity, and her incredible inner and outer beauty. If there was any character that deserved to make a blazing comeback (or, as we all wish, get her own series), it would certainly have to be Gadget Hackwrench. Although Gadget is my clear-cut favorite, I share mutual respect and love for all the Rangers and all the other characters from the series (and suffice to say, I have more love for Foxglove than after I first saw her originally in "Good Times, Bat Times"--you can thank Roy Neal and the Foxy Feature for that). Even though it's on a channel I can't get and it's been almost two years since I've seen an episode (thus making me suffer RWS, or 'Ranger Withdrawl Syndrome'), my favorite all-time television show, cartoon or otherwise, is and always will be "Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers". Now, as for other subjects to address here...first, my "retirement". This is not a retirement from the Rangerphile Community due to my RWS; it is a "semi-retirement" from FanFic writing. Currently, I have no plausible or comprehensible ideas that I can turn into a FanFic, so I am taking a short break from writing FanFics. If, by my ninteenth birthday (July 25th, 2000), I feel as if I can no longer produce a Rescue Ranger FanFic, I will announce my full retirement from FanFic writing, and leave my legacy of the "Dark Savior Series" and the OYV for you. And please, do not try to change my mind--unless you have any ideas for Dale, Monty (& Zipper), and/or Gadget's OYV, and you're currently working on other projects... :) But on to another matter. As many of you probably know, soon, my "final" FanFic will be released on the RR Database. Entitled "Final Mission", it represents all of my remaining memory of the Rangers and the final FanFic idea in my mind. (Are you starting to see a "final" theme here? ;) But I might as well reveal the surprise of the FanFic here, if you haven't already guessed it (or if you know it) --the two main characters of my "Dark Savior Series", Leviathan Walker and Don, will be finished off. (Their new permanent home will be the Ranger Coffeehouse-- that is, after the resurrection... ;) Thus, you may feel free to write backstories in the vein of "The Dark Savior's Past" if you so wish. If you do, though, please send them to me for clearance. (It's strider_sss@hotmail.com, if you didn't already know.) Another thing I wanna touch on--the couples getting together. I wish all of the Rangerphile couples the best of luck in their relationships. (Now if only *I* could find me someone... :< ) Julie, your study on us was very compelling, and although I haven't finished reading it yet, I do promise to finish it. Using my new computer, I can now make CDs. In saying this, I want to let you know I'd love to make a CD of the songs I've made using the MTV Music Generator for the PlayStation and send a copy of it to someone, whether on CD, video (using the video maker within the Generator), or cassette tape. If you're wondering what this has to do with CDRR, I made a song that's titled after my all-time favorite FanFic--the always incredible "Rainbow's Gold" by Meghan Elizabeth Brunner. Oh, and one last thing before I go. You have all made me feel welcome since I returned about three weeks ago, and you made me feel the same way when I first joined you some three years ago. You supported me when I was forced off by keeping my stories and the International Order of Gadgephiles alive (and I hope to revive the IOG--but maybe as a part of R.O.A.R.; what do you say, Julie?). You've never had a bad thing to say about all of my ideas (and here's an original idea I ran by Kat; for the "Antis"--Gadget and Jerry Mouse?). I am happy--nay, proud to call all of you my friends. I enjoy getting to know all of you very much, and I hope to one day meet some, if not all of you. Let's keep it going in the new millenium, guys. For Darren...for the Rangers...forever. "Quote the Strider, forevermore." Triple-S ------ R.O.A.R. rather needs revitalized; it's completely stagnated at this point, between no new developments happening (well, okay, stuff's *happened,* but I'm too danged lazy to write it up...) and me being too lazy to add members (I don't think there's been anyone trying to become a member for the past several months, and I'm sure my computer deleted some of the older submissions back in summer of '99... ^^;;;). So before IOG can join ROAR, ROAR needs shook awake... What I could really use is someone to write up any news/etc. that needs written up...maybe I could force myself to format it then? ^^;;; I don't know; it's been kind of hard for me to get the desire to work on it some more... Julie ------ As the last surviving founder of R.O.A.R., I agree. REVIVE! Eddie Baird ------ Re: Multiple Subjects (What I've missed, retirement, "Final Mission", and others) I wouldn't make sound so definite. If you can't think of anything to write, fine. But don't announce your retirement. You never know when inspiration will hit. Matthew ------ Good point! Don't burn any bridges you might want to cross again some day. Or sit under. Under the bridge? Never mind, my brain is fried from excess contact with certain TV news people. Blargh... Karl ------ Jerry? I -still- say "she wouldn't like him" ;) As for "Final Mission", Kuwani found my advance copy of it & she's not a happy camper... KUWANI: WHAT?!? How could a Writer do that to his own fictive?!?! KAT: Hey, maybe he got tired of writing "Dark Savior" stories. KUWANI: Yeah, well, I WANT LEVIATHAN BACK!! [Kat sticks her fingers in her ears to help stop the ringing & then pulls them out.] KAT: You -sure- about that? After what he did to Gadget?? KUWANI: Hey, give him a break! His mind wasn't under his own control at the time! KAT: Okay, okay; you -could- ressurect him, y'know... KUWANI:Yeah! That's right! It wasn't a -natural- death. I could -wish- him back. KAT: *sigh* Fine. But since his Writer's stated that "Final Mission" was the last 'Leviathan' fic he's going to write, he'll be hanging around the Coffeehouse a looooong time. [Kat turns around & sees a portal dissolve into 3 glowing clawmarks. The clawmarks shirnk and fade out. However, Kat managed to catch a glance of the Ranger Coffeehouse before they faded completely.] KAT: *Grr* She didn't hear what I said. Guess I should go after her. *sigh* I really should stop leaving my printouts lying around my lair. [Kat teleports away.] Kat ------
