(Previously on MP) Recall what happened on the 5th Season Finale
OPENING:
Matt, driving his Jeep, races after the ambulance that is carrying Samantha's unconscious body to the  Emergency Room. With Chelsea and Matt beside him, he hurries to find a parking space as the ambulance veers toward the emergency entrance. Inside, Matt bounds off to get what information he can, as Billy and Chelsea go to the Admissions Desk. They are told they'll have to be seated in the Waiting Room. Chelsea leads Billy toward a seat. Across from them Craig stares, his face filled with
anger, seeking someone to blame for the tragic accident, that just destroyed the happiest moment of his life. An ER doctor, named Carter, crosses to Craig. Jennifer is at Craig's side when he is told that Sydney is dead, as a result of being hit by the car that Samantha was driving. Matt has rushed back to Billy to tell him that Samantha has come through with only minor injuries and can be released tomorrow. Her father was killed, however. On hearing that Sydney was killed Billy crosses toward Craig to express his sympathy, but is greeted with an outburst of anger and self-pity. "Hell, You're precious Sammy is still breathing. So forget that she's a murderer", he tells Billy. Craig can only think that his wife is dead, and that the car that snuffed out her young life was driven by Billy's girlfriend, Samantha. He tells everyone as they watch "Sydney was right. None of you knew her. She was better than all of you put together. MAY YOU ROT IN HELL. MAY ALL OF YOU ROT IN HELL. He storms off angrily toward the exit, mumbling threats of revenge.

1ST SEGMENT:
Awakening in each other's arms. Amanda and Kyle are unaware of the tragic accident that has occurred during the night. They laugh about their parade of lovemaking that led to them finally ending up in bed. Amanda pulls back from yet another sexy kiss, telling Kyle that she still must fly to new York. To his shocked expression, she answers that she is not taking the job there, but the friend who offered her a position in his company does not take rejection lightly, and she feels she must fly back and explain things, in person. Kyle reluctantly agrees, but tells her she had better get back in a couple of days, or he'll come after her.

In Carmel, CA,  Peter returns to the rented bungalow that he is sharing with Taylor. She rushed to him puzzled as to where he has been for two hours. He answers, in an apparently sincere mood, that he has been walking and thinking, and has made a decision. Taylor fears that he still doesn't believe her announcement about being pregnant, but he surprises her by saying that her pregnancy has brought him to a new point in his life. He then takes a small jewelry box from his pocket and presents her with a diamond ring and asks her to be his bride. Taylor is overjoyed.

Jennifer visits her brother, Michael in the hospital. His hands are still bandaged from cuts received in the fight with Peter, at the office. He asks her to hand-feed him his lunch, since he can't hold a spoon. She tells him that Megan has moved out of the beach house and is staying at her apartment. From the sound of her mood, it seems highly unlikely that Megan is going to come running back to him, she adds. Jennifer then tells Michael that she has just heard that Taylor and Peter are in Carmel, and are getting married. Michael is stunned, realizing that as Peter's wife she wouldn't back up his argument that Peter is psychotic, and not suitable for the position of Chief of Staff. Knowing that her brother is desperate for an ally, Jennifer offers her services, in persuading Megan to come home to him. Michael is suspicious, but Jennifer says (in godfather like voice) "One day Michael, I will come to you for a favor and you will grant me that favor no matter what it is".

As Billy enters the hospital carrying some flowers for Samantha, he is stopped by the woman detective, Walker. Billy asks if charges will be filed against Samantha, but walker tells him that will be up to the District Attorney. Her opinion however, is that it is pretty clear that Sam's father abducted her and that brought about the accident and death of Sydney Andrews, she adds.

Billy enters Samantha's room and presents her with the flowers. Her face lights up on seeing him. He explains that he tried to see her earlier but the hospital wouldn't let him, because the police were taking to her. She sighs that it appears that part of the nightmare is over, at least. Samantha says that she was trying to get to him, knowing he was at the wedding, because she wanted to tell him how much she loved him, fearing that her father might force her to go to Mexico. She bursts into tears sobbing that she has caused so much pain to so many people. Billy holds her close trying to comfort her.

2ND SEGMENT:
Jennifer arrives for work at the Upstairs Jazz Club, and is greeted by Kyle. He questions why she is late and jokes that it must have been a real wild reception party. Jennifer tells him about the accident and Sydney's death. Kyle is stunned . Jennifer begins to chide him about being off with Amanda when one of his other "girlfriends" was bleeding to death on the church lawn. Kyle snaps that she should shut her mouth. Jennifer scoffs that one day all his "using girls and tossing them away", will catch up with
him. Kyle ponders that accusation as he walks away.

Arriving in New York, Amanda goes directly to Eric Baines' office at Baines Advertising. The handsome young executive has arranged to have Amanda assigned to an office next to his, with welcoming flowers in vases about the room. He reminisces about when Amanda first came to work for him, and how he recognized immediately that she was executive advertising material. When he suggests they go to Lutece for lunch and formalize her homecoming with a bottle '84 Margaux wine, Amanda interrupts. She says she has something important to say, before he goes any further. She tells him that when she telephoned him a few days ago, she was desperate and felt she needed to relocate, away from Los Angeles, but now things have changed. She tells him that she and a man-friend have become much closer emotionally, and they also share ownership in a small night club. Eric questions the wisdom of throwing away a wonderful opportunity that he has made possible for her, just because she is "sleeping with some guy". Amanda answers that the situation is not that simple, and regrettably she has to turn down his offer. She turns to the door and leaves. Eric releases his restrained anger by hurling a vase of flowers against the wall, then smolders with cold rage surfacing in his eyes. This is not a man who takes rejection lightly.

In a cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, we see a tall young man standing by Kimberly Shaw's grave. Dr. Brett Cooper places a wreath of flowers on the grave, then says  "Don't worry, Michael's gonna pay for what he did to you. One day I'll be back, Kimberly".

In her apartment, Jennifer is leafing through a fashion magazine fantasizing over how wonderful it must be to wear nothing but designer clothes. Aiming her conversation at getting Megan to discuss her feeling about Michael, she asks if her husband bought her nice clothes. Megan shrugs that he give her money to shop, at least when he felt that her old wardrobe was not suitable for the wife of a "would-be" Chief of Staff. Megan says that he was generous to her, but she could not tolerate his constant lying and fanatical ambition to reach the top in his field, no matter what the cost.

Outside the church, where a simple service is about to begin, in memory of Sydney, some of the residents of Melrose Place, have arrived to pay their respects. Matt and Chelsea have a brief chat with Craig. But when Samantha and Billy walk up, Craig bristles, telling them it is not necessary for them to be there. He says that Billy should take care of things at the advertising agency until he returns from Chicago. He wants to deliver Sydney's remains to her parents and will return in a few days. When
Samantha tries to express her sympathy, Craig flares in anger again, causing Samantha to burst into tears and hurry back toward the car. Billy moves away, to comfort her.

In their bungalow in Carmel, Peter insists on watching golf on television, at a time when Taylor is more interested in a different kind of "sport". As she snuggles close he pushes her away saying that they're getting married tomorrow, he feels she should control her emotions until then. Taylor is stunned at this "Puritanical attitude" saying that it is not as though they had not been intimate before. She accidentally knocks against his hand, spilling wine on the front of his shirt. He flares in anger, but Taylor apologizes quickly, and offers to get him a fresh shirt from his suitcase. As she digs through his clothes, she comes upon a white shirt with blood stains across the front. Peter comes up behind her and seeing her startled look, explains calmly, that he and Michael had a physical confrontation at the office, just before he picked her up for the trip. He says he didn't have time to drop it off at the condo. He continues by saying that they fought because he felt that Michael had unfairly had him ousted from his position as Chief of Staff. He adds that the tension brought of one of those Rage Epilepsy attacks. He goes on to thank Taylor for bringing this medical condition to everyone's attention so it can be treated. Taylor smiles nervously, telling him that it was nothing and they should put it out of their minds. Peter pulls her close saying he can never forget what she has done. We see the look of dark vengeance in Peter's eyes.

At the crematorium, Billy and Samantha stand in the viewing room as the wooden coffin is placed in the furnace. Samantha stares toward the cremation, reminiscing about her childhood, and how much she had loved her father, then. Slowly her thoughts turn to more recent events when he had lied and "poisoned" her mind with his hate. She cries out and breaks into sobs. Billy holds her close and tries to comfort her.

3RD SEGMENT:
Billy is leaving for work and questions if Samantha will be all right by herself. She assures him she will and as soon as he is gone she telephones her mother back in Maryland. Kate Reilly is told that her husband broke out of prison and came out to California. Samantha goes on to tell her mother how her father got into trouble and then was killed in an accident while fleeing from the police. When Sam asks if she can brings his remains back there for burial, Kate rejects the idea, saying that she wants no more to do with her husband or his remains. Samantha hangs up the phone, feeling more lost than ever.

Matt stops in to see Michael, after receiving a message from him. Michael tells him that, since his hands are still bandaged, he can't follow through on a lot of the paperwork that needs signing, and he wants Matt to accept a temporary job as his assistant. Thinking Matt would be delighted with the new responsibility, Michael is stunned to hear that he is considering doing his residency at an AIDS research facility in San Francisco. Matt says that he came into medicine, not for wealth and power, but rather to relieve pain and suffering. He then, asks Michael to sign the form recommending him for the job opening. Michael can't help but admire this humanitarian attitude, and offers to telephone, his medical school buddy who is in charge of the research facility.

As Matt is leaving, a young doctor comes in and introduces himself as Dr. Brett Cooper . He says that he is new on the staff and wanted to met the Chief of Staff. Michael smiles cordially saying he would shake hands but the bandages make that impractical. Cooper says that he took a peek at Michael's chart at the nurse's station and noticed that the attending physician doesn't feel that his patient will ever regain full use of his hands, sufficient to perform surgical procedures. Cooper adds that he knows a top surgeon at UCLA who specializes in repair of traumatically injured hands, and would be happy to mention Michael's case, over dinner tonight. Michael is gratified over this news.

While conducting inventory of the liquor stock, Jennifer quizzes Kyle as to why Amanda felt it necessary to fly back to New York. She tries to place suspicion in Kyle's mind but suddenly Amanda walks in. She kisses Kyle passionately, much to Jennifer's disgust. Jennifer quotes "Are we working or are you two gonna mate right in front of me?". Kyle suggests she continue the inventory in the storeroom.

In a small church, Taylor walks down the aisle, a picture of bridal loveliness. At the altar, Peter waits for her and the minister begins the simple service. When he reaches the familiar lines about "anyone who has reason why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony", Peter speaks up. She says "Peter thats not funny". Peter replies "It's hillarious actually". Taylor is shocked at his outburst about how she could possibly think he would go through with marrying her after all of her scheming and lying. He questions how she could believe that she could somehow replace her dead sister, in his life, and was willing to destroy his career in order to fulfill her warped and twisted fantasy. When the minister tries to calm him, Peter tells him to shut up and stay out of this. Peter continues by saying that she even had the nerve to think that he would believe the biggest lie of all, that she was pregnant with his child. Peter says "That's beyond pathetic". Taylor is nearly hysterical and slumps to the floor totally devastated. Peter turns toward the door, and storms out.

4TH SEGMENT:
At the hospital, Michael has asked Matt to push his wheel chair down to the Chief of Staff's office so he can see if all of Peter things have been cleared out. As they open the door they are startled to find Dr. Brett Cooper there. Cooper recovers quickly, explaining that he had dropped by to see Michael, expecting that he would be keeping office hours by now. Michael is a bit upset that Cooper has come by without making an appointment, but all is quickly forgiven when the young doctor says he spoke to his friend the hand surgeon, and he has agreed to see Michael tomorrow if that is convenient. Cooper then asks if anyone knows of a rental apartment nearby that's available. Michael offers Matt's apartment, saying it will be empty tomorrow. To Matt's puzzled look, Michael explains that he phoned the head of the research project in San Francisco, and Matt has the job. As Brett Cooper walks away, Michael feeling in a mellow mood tells Matt that they have not always seen eye to eye on things, but he will miss Matt and hopes he will come back some day. Michael says to Matt "When i take over the world. Come back and help me corrupt it, ok?".

Back at the apartment complex, Matt stands in the courtyard, wanting to say good-bye to everyone, but to his sorrow can't find anyone at home. He recalls about some of the crazy things that happen here and Rhonda, then tells Chelsea that he hopes she'll get to know people like the zany ones he has known. They all helped him to grow up, he adds. Chelsea concludes "I know you Uncle Matt and you're pretty loony".

Taylor shows up at the Upstairs Jazz Club to report to Kyle that Jennifer has been filching bar supplies from the restaurant downstairs. She adds that she wants that stopped right now. Kyle is surprised to see her, thinking that she was still in Carmel with her new boyfriend. Taylor answers that its none of his business, but for the record she is finished with Peter Burns. At that moment, Amanda eases up to Kyle's side commenting that she thought that she and Peter were inseparatable. Amanda gives Kyle a warm kiss. Taylor snaps that she has to get back to the restaurant and doesn't have time to chat. Amanda comments that she hopes they won't be seeing too much of each other. Jennifer scoffs that it may be difficult since Matt rented her Jake Hanson's old apartment, lease and all. Unable to resist, Jennifer suggests that Amanda should pay more attention to business. Kyle quickly avoids an explosive confrontation, by asking Amanda to dance.

Billy wakes up in the middle of the night and finds Samantha is not in bed decide him. He finds her in the spare room with paint brush in hand. She pretends she had insomnia and thought she would paint for a while. Billy heads back to bed, and we see the image on the canvas is of a terrified young girl, with a hand clamped tightly over her mouth. The picture is obviously of Samantha in her supermarket unifrom. The hand is obviously her fathers.Red flames leap upward in the background. After a moment, Samantha smears the painting, obscuring the image.

In Sydney's apartment, Craig stares forlornly at the beautifully wrapped wedding gifts piled on the table. He opens one of the cards which reads, "May you enjoy a long an happy life together". Craig erupts in a rage, tossing and kicking the gifts toward the pool. Jennifer, coming home from work, rushes to him, trying to console him. One box catches her eye. She slowly hands it to Craig saying it is a gift from Sydney. He cradles it in his hands and gazes down at the gift, an antique gold watch. She reads the inscription, on the back, "Craig, time doesn't matter, our love is forever. Love, your wife, Sydney". Jennifer tells him to treasure these things and the "love will last forever". She tries to comfort him as his emotions crumble into a flood of tears.

Michael is half asleep in his hospital bed as he hears the door open and then sees a shadow across his bed. Suddenly, his throat is grasped in a choke hold and he struggles wildly. Glaring down at him he sees Peter's face. Peter hisses for Michael not to worry, he doesn't intend to kill him yet, but by the time he finishes with him , he will wish he were dead. Peter turns back toward the door, advising Michael "Don't close your eyes. You never who may sneak in". Michael, shaken to the core, struggles to catch his breath..[Fade Out]
